Tailored testing will give students questions better suited to their achievement level, the precision and timing of results will help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs and parents will get their child’s results faster. Over the past two years we have been a trial school in preparing for the NAPLAN online assessments, ensuring our technical readiness, student readiness and teacher readiness. The data and information we gain from NAPLAN drives ongoing improvement at school. Any questions parents/caregivers have about their child completing NAPLAN should be discussed with the class teacher. A brochure with information about NAPLAN assessments has been sent home with Year 3 and Year 5 students today. Any questions parents/caregivers have about their child completing NAPLAN can be discussed with the class teacher or me.

Tomorrow is the annual faction swimming carnival being held at Iluka Aquatic Centre in Gingin. Please remember that the whole school is involved in this event and all staff will be involved in the carnival. All students are to be at the pool by 9:40 for a 10:00 start. Notes with all the relevant details were distributed to students on the 26 February, so please check these for other information.

Bullying No Way! Take Action Every Day

We will join schools across Australia in making a stand against bullying and violence in our communities by joining in the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. The national day of action is a strong message of support to say NO to bullying! Whilst we conduct regular lessons in social and emotional behaviour throughout the year, it is important for our children to join in a wider context and take part in this national day of action. Friday 15th March is the National Day of Action on Bullying and Violence. Our school is registered for this event but as this is the Interschool Swimming Carnival day we will be doing our activities on Thursday 14

th March. All classes will be doing activities

related to this and all students will receive a wrist band and information to bring home on the day.

NAPLAN 2019

Children in Year 3 and 5 will participate in NAPLAN from 13 May 2019. NAPLAN is transitioning to an online environment. This means moving from paper based to an online assessment. Year 3 children will complete a writing assessment on paper.

A brochure with information about NAPLAN assessments has been sent home with Year 3

and Year 5 students today. Any questions parents/caregivers have about their child

completing NAPLAN can be discussed with the class teacher or me.

LANCELIN PRIMARY SCHOOL

Assembly Roster Weekly assemblies are held at 8:50 every Wednesday morning in the library. Class assemblies will also

be held on Wednesday mornings in weeks 5 and 10 of the term. These will commence in term 2.

Children’s University Lancelin Primary School students will have the opportunity to be involved in this wonderful initiative again in 2019. Through our partnership with Edith Cowan University, this program enables the provision of extra-curricular learning opportunities for children aged between 7 – 14 years (and 5 – 6 year olds with their families). The aim of the program is to engage children and young people in learning in its broadest sense and to provide the scaffolding for them to develop self-efficacy, confidence and aspirations.

Stay tuned for more information. Every Day Counts In the last newsletter, I included information regarding student attendance and the importance of children being at school every day. We are half way through term one and I will be sending out letters to parents of students whose attendance deems them at risk, that is 80% or below. Take care

Contributions and Charges

Thank you to families who have paid the contributions and charges fee for 2019. This money is critical to support the school in providing important resources and opportunities that maximise our children’s learning outcomes. Fundamentally, the greater percentage of families who contribute this payment to the school the increased resourcing opportunities are provided to our children. Payment will be greatly appreciated and received at administration.

Please remind you children to bring

their hats to the swimming carnival

tomorrow.

Well done to everyone for

completing swimming

lessons this year.
