Purpose and RationalThe purpose of this project is to comprehend and utilize the different segments of design and product development through a hands-on experience. Using our findings through standard practices of conducting brand and trend research to design a product that honor and exemplify the attributes of our assigned brand, Feiss.To develop a product that allies the latest trends and technology to develop ideas for products or services that possess or display aspects of that particular company, such as colors, finishes, shapes or forms, culture, etc. Inspiration and creativity will expand and thrive with the endless possib and knowledge by acquiring skills and challenging ourselves to find and utilize any and all standard practices, all resources- including CAD and other design programs available.

Step 1: Brand ResearchOur team’s brand is Murray Feiss.Brand research is a process all on its own and takes a lot of planning. It's through careful consideration of objectives, timeline, and budget that a sensible plan emergesOne must be familiar with their own brand, its competitors and develop a product that is not only a new concept for the market but still products or services possesses or displays aspects of that particular company, such as colors, finishes, shapes or forms, etc. Knowledge and insight is the key. that can design a product that not only will sell but is also what that particular brand would offer.

Tinkercad is a free and user-friendly browser-based 3D design and modeling tool for all.

Phase 2: 3D CAD rendering

Here we can apply what we have learned in different classes , such as Greek and Roman elements of design and ornamental motifs. Nature also has a huge influence on designs.

Changing DirectionOriginally, all three team members’ CAD designs featured columns, however it was quickly agreed that we needed to incorporate a modern theme to better suit for Feiss.

We converted the columns into rods and unified the lamp stands to resemble those consistently used by this particular brand.

Designer: Kirby KitchensIn this CAD design, bubbles and rods were used as fillers for the smaller “floating” pieces. To get the best results from the 3D Printer, the structure had to be seperated into three pieces.

Relevance to Industry and PracticalityThis process highlights or lightly touches the basic methods, that professionals in this industry practice every day when presenting or proposing ideas and developing the actual product. The designer may have this fabulous idea but unfortunately it may not suit that particular company, client or retailer’s persona or attributes. In other words, it just not something they would offer or carry. Hence, the importance and usefulness of brand and trend research to design a product or idea that honors and exemplifies the characteristics of the brand.
