Born in Carbondale, son of the late James and Neie Or- ban Serge, Cuda worked for 37 years at Procter & Gamble. He was a New York Yankees fan and was a member of the Moxie Club and Carbondale American Legion Post 221. Surviving are his former wife, Wendy Serge, Childs; two sons, James and wife, Amanda, Vandling; Anthony and companion, Susan Freno, Mayfield; a daughter, Jennifer and spouse, Kellie Shannon, Honesdale; five grandchildren, Josh and Derrick Shannon and Gia, Maria and Mahew Serge; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ann; and son, Michael; and a sister, Norleen Cerminaro. The funeral was Friday, Au- gust 19 from Lawrence A. Skiba, Pastor Emeritus of Saint Jo- seph Church, Wyoming, died on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at home. Father Skiba, son of the late Walter Skiba and Julia Blaszkiewicz Skiba, was born in Scranton on December 23, 1930. He received his early education at SS. Peter and Paul School, Scranton and gradu- ated from Taylor High School. Father graduated from the University of Scranton on June 1, 1952 with a B.A. in history. He then entered SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, Orchard Lake, Michigan where he stud- ied for the priesthood. Father Skiba was ordained on May 26, 1956, in Saint Peter’s Ca- thedral, Scranton, by the Most Reverend Jerome D. Hannan, D.D., late Bishop of Scranton. Father Skiba was assigned as assistant pastor at St. Jude’s, Mountaintop; St. Mary’s, Mo- canaqua; St. Michael’s, Old Forge; St. Stanislaus, Hazle- ton; St. Mary’s, Plymouth; St. Mary’s, Nanticoke; and Visi- tation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Dickson City. His first pastorate was at St. James, Pleasant Mount in 1973. He then served as pastor of St. Stanislaus, Scranton and in 1981 was named pastor of St. Joseph’s in Wyoming where he remained until his retire- ment and appointment as Pas- tor Emeritus on July 6, 2006. Father Skiba also served as Deanery Coordinator for Pope John Paul II’s Papal Visit to Philadelphia in 1979; and Dean of the West Piston Deanery. He was appointed to the Pro-Life Commiee of the Diocese of Scranton as the Piston Area Representative. As a retired priest Father Skiba continued to serve with his appointment as adminis- trator pro tem of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Dick- son City in 2014 and he also served at St. Patrick’s Parish, West Scranton. Father Skiba celebrated the 60th Anniversary of his Ordi- nation with a Pontifical Mass Celebrated by Most Rever- end Joseph C. Bambera, D.D., J.C.L. He is survived by three sis- ters, Charloe Skiba, Narvon, PA; Janet Skiba, Furlong, PA; and Theresa Hoban and hus- band, James, Newark, DE; niece, Lynn Marie and neph- ews, James, David and Jeffrey; four great nieces and nephews and cousins. Lottie Urban Lake Como Loie Urban, 90, of Lake Como, Pa., died on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale, Pa. She was born on Dec. 3, 1925, in Lake Como, the daughter of Joseph and Michalyna (Talalay) Tarabulski. She married Theo- dore Urban on Feb. 3, 1951, in St. Juliana’s Roman Catholic Church, Rock Lake, Pa, and he predeceased her on Dec. 17, 2002. Loie was a lifelong mem- ber of St. Juliana’s Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She loved to cook and bake, and often times, prepared meals for community functions. In her later years, Loie took part in the sewing circle that gathered at the Northern Wayne Library, where she enjoyed her time with friends. Surviving are two daughters, Jean and husband, Bill Simon; and Joan and husband, Harold Roney; a sister, Sophie Wis- newski; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six sisters, Mary, Anne, Bey, Helen, Estelle and Theresa; and a brother, Joseph. Classes begin in September. For 34 years Lynnee’s Twirlerees is known for it’s “No Registration Fee” and once a week classes. Lynnee’s Twirlerees hold numerous State, National and Regional Titles. They have trav- eled and performed extensively across the United States, Canada, Bermuda, Bahamas, Mexico and the West Indies. Students are taught basic ba- ton twirls, dance twirls, pom pom routines, show teams, marching, parade routines, teams exchanges and basic gymnastic moves. Be- ginners thru advanced levels are offered. Baton twirling offers self- esteem, confidence, poise, grace, physical fitness, teamwork, and a lifetime of friendships and memo- ries. Since 1983 over 1000 students have traveled through this twirl- ing school and have donated over $40,000 to local organizations and charities. Lynnee Lepre-Van Deusen, Director has 40 years of twirl- ing experience, she is a licensed teacher and judge, and a former Miss America preliminary con- testant and judge. Lynnee cho- reographed the halftime twirling segment for the 2007 Liberty Bowl in Memphis, the 2009 Holiday Bowl in California, the 2011 Ala- mo Bowl in Texas and will serve as the twirling choreographer for this year’s Sugar Bowl in New Or - leans, Louisiana. She is a former contestant, judge and regional director of the Miss Hemisphere pageant system. Lynnee served as head coach for the Carbondale Area HS Marching Units for 10 years and also choreographed several local high school field shows. Cassandra Horst Vandling Cassandra “Melody” Horst, Vandling, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Her husband is Stephen Podunajec. Born in 1969 in Bedford, Va., daughter of Robert Horst and Ma- rie Brownley, she was employed by United Parcel Service in Dun- more. Also surviving are daughters, Briany Aleckna and husband, Brandon, Lake Ariel; and Brandi L. Straon, Hawley; sisters, April Spence Cox and Sandra Horst Wendling; brothers, Dale and Tommy Meador, and Robert Spence; a granddaughter, Rylee Aleckna; nieces and nephews. Carbondale, died Monday, Au-gust 15, 2016 at home.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late James and Nettie Or-ban Serge, Cuda worked for 37 years at Procter & Gamble. He was a New York Yankees fan and was a member of the Moxie Club and Carbondale American Legion Post 221.

Surviving are his former wife, Wendy Serge, Childs; two sons, James and wife, Amanda, Vandling; Anthony and companion, Susan Freno, Mayfield; a daughter, Jennifer and spouse, Kellie Shannon, Honesdale; five grandchildren, Josh and Derrick Shannon and Gia, Maria and Matthew Serge; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ann; and son, Michael; and a sister, Norleen Cerminaro.

The funeral was Friday, Au-gust 19 from Lawrence A. Ga-briel Funeral Home and Cre-mation Services Inc., 2 Hospital St., Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Entomb-ment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.

Reverend Walter F. Skiba

Reverend Walter F. Skiba, Pastor Emeritus of Saint Jo-seph Church, Wyoming, died on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at home.

Father Skiba, son of the late Walter Skiba and Julia Blaszkiewicz Skiba, was born in Scranton on December 23, 1930. He received his early education at SS. Born in 1969 in Bedford, Va., daughter of Robert Horst and Ma-rie Brownley, she was employed by United Parcel Service in Dun-more.

Also surviving are daughters, Brittany Aleckna and husband, Brandon, Lake Ariel; and Brandi L. Stratton, Hawley; sisters, April Spence Cox and Sandra Horst Wendling; brothers, Dale and Tommy Meador, and Robert Spence; a granddaughter, Rylee Aleckna; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Tony Horst.

Funeral services were held Aug. 22 from the Free Methodist Church of South Canaan, with the Rev. William Rushik, pastor, of-ficiating. Cremation in the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.
