Standardized Tests Defined

PSAT (Practice SAT Test) SAT I Reasoning SAT Subject Tests (SAT II) Advanced Placement Tests (AP)

Page 11: Lakeside School Curriculum Night Class of 2014 January 10, 2012 Kent Evans Auditorium

Testing and College Considerations PSAT tests are given by the school (on

campus) in October of the sophomore and junior year.  Cost is $20 and is billed home.  No registration paperwork needed.

We recommend that juniors take the SAT I Reasoning Test once in their junior year – usually spring. These are offered 7 times per year

(October through June) and the cost is $49 (fee waivers available)

Page 12: Lakeside School Curriculum Night Class of 2014 January 10, 2012 Kent Evans Auditorium

Testing and College Considerations

There are very likely to be SAT Subject Tests (a.k.a. SAT II tests) that are relevant in the spring of sophomore year.  Most colleges want to see two subject test

results. Best scores only. We advise taking these after an “ending”

course. For instance, Physics and World History at

the end of 10th grade. Cost: The relevant SAT Subject tests are given

just before or right in between Lakeside’s final exams

Cost: $33-44 per test (fee waivers are available)

Deadline: late April for June SAT Subject Tests

Testing and College Considerations

Hot Tip from the Parents Association:

If you hope to register your student for an SAT being administered in Seattle,

sign up early! (For example, if your student plans to take an SAT Reasoning or

Subject Test this spring your student can plan ahead now and register now for future dates.)

Page 14: Lakeside School Curriculum Night Class of 2014 January 10, 2012 Kent Evans Auditorium

Testing and College Considerations

Advanced Placement Tests About 70% of our graduates take at least one AP test

and 80% of those receive a 4 or better (out of 5) We recommend that students take an AP test after

they have achieved mastery in a subject and have taken the highest level of that course that they will take.

Taken in the first two weeks in May (at school during the school day). Registration is done on campus with the deadline in March.

Cost: $87 per test
