Job’s Three Friends Share His Anguish

Three of Job’s friends heard of the tragedy he had suffered, they got together and traveled from their homes to comfort and console him. Their names were Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. When they saw Job from a distance, they scarcely recognized him. Wailing loudly, they tore their robes and threw dust into the air over their heads to show their grief. Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and nights. No one said a word to Job, for they saw that his suffering was too great for words.

Job 2:11-13

Friends,

Every time I sit to write our newsletter, I am so excited to talk to you! Our trip is this week, so please pray for travel safety and health. When we return, we will have so many stories to tell!

Job 2: 11-13 has been on my heart for the past several months, and I am sharing it with you as I organize our men’s group, Man2Man. I find that most men are not as social as women, and because of that, they have fewer friends and little interaction with others. They are lonely. Even amongst our Lake Ridge Ladies, we have many ladies who are lonely. As I prepare for Man2Man, I find myself looking forward to meeting these men and learning just how much we ALL have in common.

We will have a Potluck Dinner this month, which will include Man2Man. I hope you will come and enjoy a fun evening. Ladies, if you will, please bring a dish to share with friends. Come be a blessing to those who need a friend and want to find joy again.

God blesses me through you, and I appreciate each one of you so much.

Sharing Loss, Sharing LifeREMEMBERING THROUGH LIVING

The Lake Ridge Ladies believe in a process of supportive interaction with family, friends and community. By remembering and honoring our past, we believe we can be a source of strength and inspiration for each other and those around us. The stated mission of the Lake Ridge Ladies organization is to embrace every moment life has to offer and enrich our community, each other and ourselves through a positive outlook and a lifestyle rich with experiences.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH1-2-3 Mug CakeINGREDIENTS

INSTRUCTIONS

• 1 Angel Food cake mix• 1 cake mix of your choice

• Whisk the two cake mixes together until they are free of lumps and well combined. You now have enough “1-2-3 cake mix” for about 31 little microwave cakes.

• Store your 1-2-3 cake mix in an airtight container or a one-gallon Ziplock bag. Label your container and then keep ready for the next time a cake craving strikes.

• You’ll need a mug that holds at least 10 ounces, measuring spoons, nonstick cooking spray, and your dry 1-2-3 cake mix. Coat your mug with nonstick spray. Then, add 3 level tablespoons of dry cake mix and 2 level tablespoons of water. Stir together with a fork in a mug.

• Microwave your mug cake for approximately one (1) minute and voila – you have cake! With a 900-watt microwave, set for 50-60 seconds. With higher wattages, reduce the cook time a little.

• For a little extra pizzazz, try adding 2 to 3 teaspoons of any of the following additions to the cake batter before cooking: miniature chocolate chips, finely chopped dried fruit, finely chopped nuts, or sprinkles.

• Enjoy right from the mug or turn it out onto a plate and pretty it up with powdered sugar, fruit topping, ice cream, or a dollop of whipped topping.

Do You Get Enough Vitamin D & Calcium?Vitamin D and calcium can be your best friends if you want to keep your bones healthy. Get the right amount and you’ll be less likely to break a bone or get a bone-weakening disease called osteoporosis. To figure out how much vitamin D is right for you, you need to get familiar with something called an “international unit,” or IU for short. That’s how vitamin D is measured.

HEALTHY TIPS

How Do You Get Vitamin D and Calcium? You can load up on calcium from a lot of different kinds of food. For example, add some dairy to your diet, such as milk, cheese, and yogurt. Or try veggies like broccoli, kale, and Chinese cabbage. Some foods, like orange juice or cereal, are “calcium-fortified,” which means the nutrient is added in by the manufacturer before you buy it.Want a simple plan to get the recommended 1,000 milligrams a day? You can do it if you eat a packet of fortified oatmeal, a cup of fortified orange juice, a cup of yogurt, and half a cup of cooked spinach. You have a lot of food choices to get the vitamin D you need. Try things like:

• All adults 19-50: 1,000 milligrams • All adults 71 and older: 1,200 milligrams

It’s not hard to reach your daily goal. You can get more than a day’s recommended amount if you eat just one small can of pink salmon.Another source of the nutrient [vitamin D] is the sun. Your body makes it from sunlight. However, since you need to wear sunscreen to protect your skin, the body is sometimes blocked from making vitamin D. Also, it can be hard to make enough from the winter sun, depending on where you live.If you’re not getting all the vitamin D and calcium you need from food, talk with your doctor about taking a multivitamin or supplements.

• Salmon, tuna, sardines, mackerel, and shrimp• Egg yolks• Beef liver• Mushrooms

• Cod and fish liver oils• Food with added vitamin D, such as milk and

some cereals, yogurts, and orange juice

FEATURED MEMBER

Cecilia (Cele) WigginsKen and I met in March of 1987 at a dinner at my sister and brother-in-law’s house. They thought Ken and I were the same kind of crazy and that we would be perfect for each other. They were right! Ken was so nice and very easy to talk to. He also loved to play and be a kid, and so did I. Three months later, Ken proposed, and three months after that, we were married. When you know, you know!

Before we met, Ken earned a master’s degree in math and worked for IBM at NASA in Houston. His work with NASA helped to launch the space shuttle Columbia. It was one of his proudest accomplishments, and rightfully so. He moved back to Lubbock, and eventually, we were introduced and got married. I was working as a nurse, but after we married, I stayed home to raise our two girls, Katie and Leslie. I was blessed that Ken and I both wanted me to stay

home and do the most rewarding job of my life.

When the girls were 6 and 7, we took our first family trip to Disneyland. Disney became “our thing,” and it turned into over 35 trips throughout the years. Ken knew the history of Walt and the park, and every little nuance about it. He made it so much fun! We were all kids! We will go back to Disneyland in April, and while it will be very difficult without Ken, we are going there to celebrate Ken and the legacy he left us.

After his pancreatic cancer diagnosis in March of 2017, we were told he had about three months to live. Ken was a fighter and never once complained about being sick. Never. He lived 19 months after diagnosis and stated that, “other than the cancer, this has been the best year of my life!” That’s Ken – kind, optimistic, and focused on his family.

That last year was one of pain but also one of growth and great joy. After receiving more than 400 handmade cards, signs, and other fun and creative well-wishes from around the world, Ken finally began to believe what we all knew – that he was loved and admired by many, and deservedly so. He was the kindest person I have ever known, and I will be forever grateful for the gift of 31 years with my best friend.

Paint Doctor has been a locally-owned business in Lubbock since 1998. Since then, we have grown to three locations in different areas of the city. At Paint Doctor, we pride ourselves on our quality, professionalism, and above average turnaround time. Not only do we offer auto body repair and paint jobs, but we also offer full-service car detailing with three different levels of pricing so our customers can choose which one is best for them. For the last 20 years, we have worked to become highly trained in hail damage repair. Our technicians have over 45 years of experience in dent removal. Hail season is from March to August, but it can go as late as November in some years. When it comes to damage from a storm on your

car, there are a few different things to consider. One of the first questions that we are asked by our customers is, “Does making a claim on insurance affect my insurance rate?” Making a claim for your vehicle due to a hail storm does not affect your insurance as it would with a collision claim because it is covered under comprehensive. Therefore, it will not affect your rates. A second question that we are frequently asked is, “Am I required to go to a specific body shop that my insurance recommends?” No, as a policy holder, the choice of body shop is completely up to you! However, if you do go to a body shop recommended by your insurance, that means the insurance company is most likely under contract with that body shop and are required to charge you a deductible. That is why it is important to note that here at Paint Doctor, we work with independently-licensed insurance adjusters to have your repairs approved and fixed at a proper level, which means you are assured the highest quality possible. Finally, there are a few things that we would like you to know when it comes to hail season. Many people try to wait after the first storm for a second or third storm to hit before making a claim. We advise that you not do this because, just like fingerprints, no two are the same. Insurance adjusters can tell the difference between one hail storm and the next. Also, if you wait for another storm to hit, there is also a strong possibility that the insurance company may charge your deductible twice rather than once. It is always best to file a claim and bring your vehicle to the body shop to start work right away.We look forward to serving you at Paint Doctor soon! Please do not hesitate to call us at (806) 777-8080 or visit us at our locations at either 2317 N. Frankford or 6611 Quincy for a free estimate and a free loaner car if needed.
