Lake Louise Winterstart World Cup – Men’s and Ladies Events – November 29 & 30, 2008 (Men) and December 5-7, 2008 (Ladies) The Lake Louise Winterstart World Cup races are televised nationally, as well as by six international broadcast networks to an estimated 140 million viewers worldwide. Lake Louise is also the first North American resort to be named to the prestigious Club 5+, bringing together the world’s most famous and historic World Cup alpine ski race destinations. Skoki Lodge Skiers and riders who want to get even further off the beaten track can head to Skoki Lodge, located in the backcountry 11 kilometres from The Lake Louise Ski Area. The Lodge was originally built in 1930-31, and a series of renovations has helped keep the log lodge retain the same character and provide the same experience as backcountry pioneer skiers from decades past. Access to the lodge is limited to an 11-kilometre long ski, and the location of the lodge itself provides excellent access to some premier backcountry skiing and touring. Meals are included with your stay (along with feather down duvets), and the quiet of the backcountry is heightened with no electricity or indoor plumbing. A visit to Skoki is undeniably an unforgettable experience deep into the Rocky Mountains.

About The Lake Louise Ski Area Inc.

New managing partner and former owner Charlie Locke has partnered with the former owner --Resorts of the Canadian Rockies chairman Murray Edwards -- to form a new company to operate Lake Louise; The Lake Louise Ski Area. The Lake Louise Ski Area will be operated independently of, but associated with, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies. Mr. Locke originally invested in the resort in 1974, helping finance many of its initial lifts. He became full owner in 1981, and spent the next 20 years shaping it into the world-class destination it is today. After a short hiatus, Mr Locke is out of retirement in 2008 and back as the managing partner for a mountain that he is passionate about.

Mr. Locke, one of the first professional mountain guides in Canada, pioneered many of the classic climbing and ski touring routes in the Canadian Rockies and made numerous first ascents in the Lake Louise area before launching parallel careers in the investment business and ranching. Today, through his holding company, The Locke Stock & Barrel Company, he has investments in ranching, real estate, resources, and recreation. Mr Locke is committed to making sure skiers and snowboarders, kids, families, and young adults have the best time possible on the snow and after!
