Regulatory markers, or buoys, give important information about boat-ing safely. Pay attention to them. Be very careful in marked areas. Orange squares give directions and information like food or fuel. Orange diamonds warn of hazards and obstructions like rocks, shallow water, stumps. * NEVER assume that every hazard will be marked by a buoy!

Orange circles mark controlled areas, such as no wake or idle speed. You will see these buoys on both sides of most bridges. * “No Wake” slowest speed that allows you to maintain steerage and headway. Orange crossed diamonds indicate exclusion (closed) areas that are off limits to boats such as swimming areas, the power station, or the dam. These are “Do Not Enter” zones!

Finding your way on Lake Anna Take time to study the map. Note the name of subdivisions, bridges and any landmarks that will help identify your location, in case of an emergency. Orientation: New Bridge (Rte. 208) is the approximate mid point of the lake. Uplake/ North from New Bridge takes you to the State Park and the Cove Restaurant on the Pamunkey River or up the North Anna River to Tim’s Restaurant. Downlake/South of New Bridge takes you in the direction of the North Anna Power Station and at the far end, the dam. In between, you will find Billikens, Asian Cafe, Vitos, and Anna Cabana Restaurants. Starting at the dam and heading north/uplake, everything on your right is Spotsylvania County and everything on your left is Louisa County. At “the splits” the communities bordered by the North Anna River and the Pamunk-ey River are in Spotsylvania County. Mind Your Wake. Share the Lake!

Water Sports Industry Association (WSIA): 1. Stay at least 150 feet from the shoreline, docks or other structures. 2. Keep music at reasonable levels. Sound travels well over the water. 3. Minimize repetitive passes on any one portion of shoreline. Once you’ve

run the same line for a while, move on to another area.

On Lake Anna, look for yellow signs with black lettering on docks, common areas, and islands to use as 911 emergency location markers.

In an emergency, use this information to tell 911 where you are. Signs are linked to 911 street addresses.
