• Keeping our beaches and ocean clean is somthing every Laguna Resident can support. One great way to do your part is to keep your car off the street on street sweeping day.

• Streets become contaminated with fine particles that are not noticeable, but are indeed on the street.

• Particulate matter is a mixture of brake dust, tire rubber, motor oil, coolant, grease, lead, zinc, iron, copper, cadmium, chromium, nickel and aluminum. These materials fall off vehicles as part of the normal aging and use of vehicles.

• Weekly street sweeping collects these materials and prevents them from entering the storm system and the nearby beaches and ocean.

• Help us keep the beaches and ocean clean. Move your vehicle for street sweeping!

Playtime Adventure is an activity program for children ages 3-4 in partnership with AYSO Region 86 that will help improve their physical motor skills, provide a foundation for an active lifestyle and prepare them to participate in sports programs. Created by experts in child development, Playtime Adventure combines physical learning with fun and imagination. To complete the adventure, the child utilizes and develops specific motor skills. At the end of each class, once the child has found the lost soccer treasure, the child will receive a Soccer Treasure sticker that can be placed on the ‘gold space’ on the storybook. The children take the storybook home and replicate the skills and adventures at home. The sequence of class and home participation continues until skill by skill, all treasures are collected. All participants receive a t-shirt, storybook, and treasure stickers.

Why Recycle Used Oil?

About the Certified Centers

What About Contaminated Oil?Certified center managers will not accept used motor oil that has been contaminated with other fluids such as anti-freeze, solvents, gasoline, or water. So please, don’t mix your used oil with anything. However, if your used oil accidentally gets contaminated, your certified center manager can tell you where to take it for proper disposal. Alternatively, you can get information from the City of Laguna Beach Public Works Dept. about how to deal with your suspected contaminated oil. Call (949) 497-0344.

Did you know that used motor oil never wears out? It just gets dirty and can be recycled, cleaned and used again. Motor oil poured onto the ground or into a storm drain or tossed into trash cans (even in sealed containers) can contaminate and pollute the soil and our water. Recycling your used motor oil reduces this pollution threat, protects the environment and conserves a valuable resource. A winning combination!

The Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) encourages the recycling of used motor oil by certifying used oil recycling collection centers throughout the state. Certified Used Oil Collection Centers will take used motor oil from the public and will pay you 16 cents a gallon. Most centers will take up to 5 gallons at a time. However, due to periodic under-capacity, some centers may accept only small amounts of used oil. Also, some, but not all centers accept used oil filters. Please call the center of your choice to verify prior to your visit.
