Lafayette Urban Ministry
Annual Report 2014
We provide this report to you not out of a need to boast, but as an ex-pression of heartfelt and sincere thanks for all you have made possible here at LUM. We do it out of a sense of accountability to you, our friends and donors. Together we have accom-plished so much - extending hospitali-ty, sharing the basic necessities of food and shelter to those in need of them, nurturing and educating children and speaking out and acting for a more just society.
I am constantly amazed by the faithful individuals God leads to serve on LUM’s staff and board of direc-tors. I am inspired by the strong sup-port from LUM’s 44 member church-es. I gain energy from meeting and getting to know LUM’s many volun-teers. I am humbled by the generosity of LUM’s donors. Most of all, I am blessed by those who we serve at LUM. Despite all the difficulties they face, most who come to LUM for assis-tance express good humor, a genuine concern for others and a faith in God that sustains and nurtures.
There were new programs put in place at LUM during 2014…
Our new Legal Immigration Clinic provides those dealing with com-plex immigration issues affordable legal help that would normally cost thousands of dollars to secure.
The new LUM Dream Team Fund for Research and Evaluation was established and will soon be help-ing LUM to learn more about those we serve and gauge the effective-ness of our programs.
The St./John’s LUM Food Pantry expanded to include Saturday afternoon hours each week.

A new 5K run became a perma-nent part of our Hunger Hike fundraising weekend.
And a new winter contingency plan was put in place to provide transportation for the homeless to and from our shelter on dan-gerously cold nights. We also engaged several downtown churches to serve as backup on the rare nights when our shel-ter reaches capacity.
As we begin another year of ministry together at LUM, I look forward to the challenges we will face together and the accomplish-ments we will achieve. LUM is a special and unique kind of ministry that hasn’t been able to be replicat-ed in many other places. Thanks to you, so much that is good happens here. God bless you for the kind-ness you express and the faithful-ness you show through your sup-port of LUM!
Here in these pages is the story of LUM during 2014. The accomplish-ments, the programs, the people served and an accounting of your dollars is all shared in clear and con-cise form. In a nutshell, LUM served 6,012 different families in 2014, uti-lizing $933,615 in charitable contri-butions generously shared by 1,599 donors.

LUM Jubilee Christmas—Best Ever!
On Saturday, December 13 — hundreds of volunteers across the county hosted
over 600 families who were shopping for over 1600 children at 24 different host-
sites engaging 34 churches and organizations -- It's the 34th Annual LUM
Jubilee Christmas! Families who took advantage of one or more LUM programs
in 2014 were invited to participate.
Jubilee Christmas also provides an economic stimulus to our local community. Over $200,000 worth of toys, food, and
clothing were purchased locally to provide some Christmas assistance to families in our community. Another result is
that LUM sees fewer requests in January for emergency rent and utility assistance — because
these families are not over extending to provide a simple Christmas for their children.
Jubilee Christmas day is such a joyous day. Our Jubilee Christmas families are wonderful,
loving parents -- and our caring volunteers are excited to make these parents the "super-heroes"
on Christmas morning. LUM Jubilee Christmas is truly a community effort. Each Jubilee
Christmas family also received a ham, food card & homemade Christmas cookies to make
Christmas dinner special too. The highlight of the day was a surprise visit from Santa Claus.
LUM gives a big Jubilee Christmas thank you to all of the churches, businesses, fraternities &
sororities, clubs, donors and volunteers who made this year’s event the best ever!
