The answer to only one of several hundred questions surrounding the Sears BracketBusters slate of games scheduled for mid-February was known prior to Monday’s nationally televised release of the matchups. Regardless of the opponent — or time — Murray State fans were ready. That fact was evi- denced last Friday, when tickets for the Feb. 18 game sold out some 22 days before the game itself. On Monday evening, players and managers, as well as first-year head coach Steve Prohm and his staff, piled into the Murray State locker room after practice to learn its fate. As the announcement was made that the Racers would get fellow top-25 foe St. Mary’s, players collectively cheered, loud enough so the noise car- ried into the hallway out- side the locker room. Steve Prohm’s initial reaction was a little dif- ferent, however. “I only have one mem- ory of St. Mary’s and it’s not a good one,” Prohm said with a smile after learning of his team’s matchup with the Gaels. In just his third game as an assistant coach back in 2006, Prohm was on then head coach Billy Kennedy’s bench when St. Mary’s defeated Murray State by a count of 62-44. Now, Prohm and the Racers will get an oppor- tunity to avenge that loss in front of a national audience, but the first- year head coach of the only undefeated team in the nation said 2006 was too long ago to elicit any type of motivational material. “That was too long ago,” Prohm said. “But we still have more games to play before then. They guys will probably cele- brate this for about 30 minutes and then forget about it until we get ready to prepare for that game.” The Racers will need to in order to make it to Feb. 18 blemish-free. Murray State will host the Ohio Valley Conference’s second place team Southeast Missouri State on Thursday before making the trip to rival Tennessee-Martin on Saturday. Junior guard Isaiah Canaan said the Racers are excited about the matchup, but they won’t think about it for very long. “It’s exciting to be on national television and get more exposure and things like that,” Canaan said. “We are definitely excited about that and about the chance, but we still have to take care of business before then here with SEMO.” The Racers have enjoyed recent success in the BracketBusters, win- ning games over Evansville and Morgan State the previous two seasons, but suffered a loss in 2009 against Louisiana Tech. The Racers are joined by every other team in the OVC as participants in this year’s Bracket- Busters, in a field that features 142 total teams from 16 conferences — the biggest field in the history of the event. The Racers will take center-stage amongst them all, however. Murray State vs. St. Mary’s will be the pre- mier game of the event, and the only pitting two top-25 ranked teams against one another. The game will take place in the prime-time, 5 p.m. timeslot and will either be broadcast on ESPN or ESPN2, the first game the Racers have played on one of those two networks since their Ohio Valley Conference championship victory over Morehead State in 2010. That same season Murray State faced OVC rival Austin Peay on ESPN2. The Feb. 18 tilt will serve as one of the Racers’ final contests of the 2011-2012 regular season, and will serve as a springboard into Murray State’s final two games — a road tilt against Tennessee State followed by the season finale in Cookeville, Tenn. against Tennessee Tech. Racers move into AP top 10 For the first time in Murray State’s history, the men’s basketball team moved into the top ten of the Associated Press Poll, up one spot from last week’s ranking after a win over Eastern Illinois on Saturday. The Racers remained at the No. 9 spot in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. Murray State head coach Steve Prohm said he didn’t expect to move too much this week because of what the teams ahead of him were able to do. “The teams right there above us had a good week,” Prohm said. “We didn’t think we would move up too much, and we were able to do that in the AP Poll because Georgetown lost to Rutgers.” Racers top BracketBusters list By RICKY MARTIN Murray Ledger & Times BUICK Visit our website for great deals and check out our entire inventory at: 1-270-365-5522 111 Hwy. 91 North, Princeton, Ky. www.trice-hughes.com www.trice-hughes.com www.trice-hughes.com Trent Burton Sales Manger 270-963-0070 Tommy Harrison 270-625-8758 Brian Croft 270-625-2190 Follow us on Facebook Melissa Vandiver 270-350-0939 Lee Hughes 270-963-0236 Brent Ladd 270-963-0049 Just Traded For... 2010 Dodge Crew Cab 1-ton Diesel 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD 2006 Jeep Wrangler X 2006 Chevy Impala 1999 Chevy K1500 Silverado LT XCab 2011 Cadillac CTS Stock #104173 Current Price $31,000.00 Valentine Special $30,000 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt Stock #229965 Current Price $12,000.00 Valentine Special $12,000 2010 Hyundai Elantra Stock #928315 Current Price $13,000.00 Valentine Special $12,000 2010 Dodge Charger Stock #185856 Current Price $16,000.00 Valentine Special $15,500 2009 Kia Sedona Stock #297902 Current Price $15,000.00 Valentine Special $12,000 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT XCab Stock #174298 $13,000 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS XCab Stock #165290 $8,000 2010 GMC Yukon XL Denali Stock #191093 $43,000 2010 Chevrolet Impala 1LT Stock #266165 $17,000 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Stock #107907 $34,000 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Stock #526369 $12,000 2010 Chrysler Town & Country Stock #356851 $19,000 Other Great Deals...
