The angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her: “What troubles you, Hagar? Do not be afraid; for God has heard the voice of [your son] where he is.” Gen. 21:17 Hagar was a slave of Abraham who bore to him a son named Ishmael. When Sarah, Abraham’s wife, bore him a son, Isaac, she became jealous of Hagar and Ismael. As a result, Abraham cast Hagar out into the desert with her son. They wandered around the wilderness until their water was gone and the child was going to die of dehydration. Not wanting to watch her child die, she carefully laid the child in the shade under one of the bushes and sat down opposite him a good way off. Then in utter desolation, she lifted up her voice and wept. Ishmael also began to cry. God saw the tears and heard the cries and responded by promising Hagar that He will make a great nation of Ishmael. Then he opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. She was saved and Ishmael indeed did go on to be great. There are times in all of our lives that we cry out to God and wonder if he’s listening. Perhaps your cry is for a chronic illness that you or a loved one is experiencing; perhaps it is for emotional problems for ourselves or someone we know; perhaps it is because we are lonely, having memory problems or having to move from the place that we love. No matter what, when we cry out to God, God hears our prayers and God responds. That doesn’t mean that God will respond with what we think we need. Although at times this happens, it is not always the case. But God will respond with something that fills the need He sees. And while we may not sense any change, scripture tells us that God does respond to our cries. Psalm 102:17 assures us that “God will respond to the cries of the destitute.” Just as Hagar had to have her eyes opened in a new way to see what God had placed before her, sometimes our eyes need to be opened to a new way of seeing God responding when we cry out in pain. So, don’t be disheartened if you feel God isn’t listening. He is – just close your eyes and look again. Pastor Jan Lady Lake United Methodist Church June 2019 109 W. TRANSCRIPT

The angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her: “What troubles you, Hagar? Do not be afraid; for God has heard the voice of [your son] where he is.” Gen. 21:17

Hagar was a slave of Abraham who bore to him a son named Ishmael. When Sarah, Abraham’s wife, bore him a son, Isaac, she became jealous of Hagar and Ismael. As a result, Abraham cast Hagar out into the desert with her son. They wandered around the wilderness until their water

was gone and the child was going to die of dehydration. Pastor Jan

"God Answers Prayer" I know not by what methods rare,

But this I know, God answers prayers. I know that He has given His Word,

Which tells me prayer is always heard, And will be answered, soon or late,

And so I pray and calmly wait. I know not if the blessing sought

Will come in just the way I thought; But leave my prayers with Him alone,

Whose will is wiser than my own, Assured that He will grant my quest, Or send some answer far more blest.

~Hickok~

Words of wisdom: “There’s a fine line between a long, drawn-out sermon and a hostage situation.”

In a moment creative inspiration, the entrepreneur who owned the coin-op laundry beside the church commissioned this sign for his window: “Where cleanliness really is next to Godliness!”

God is talking to one of his angels. He says, “Do you know what I have just done? I have just created a 24-hour period of alternating light and darkness on Earth. Isn’t that good?” The angel says, “Yes, but what will you do

now?” God says, “I think I’ll call it a day.”

The Bishop’s Offering for Annual Conference 2019 will be divided evenly between a restart of the FAMU Wesley Foundation in Tallahassee and planning a new church in Lowell Women’s Prison in Reddick.

Lowell Correctional Institution

The Florida Conference is joining a trend in the US by placing a United Methodist Church in side a state prison. A pastor will be assigned to serve at Lowell correctional Institution for women in Reddick, Florida. The idea to partner with Prison Congregations of America, a consulting group that helps denominations establish worshiping congregations in prisons, came after Bishop Carter heard about a church based in a prison in Tennessee. Currently there are 34 prison-based churches in the United States, including two UMC prison churches in Tennessee and Iowa. Conference officials chose Lowell because it houses the most women (3, 054) in a correctional institution in the United States, including three on death row.

Impact at Florida A&M University Wesley Foundation

Part of our vision for IMPACT@FAMU Wesley Foundation is to create a “home away from home” for our students, an Office/pastoral care area for the Executive Director, and a place to worship, gather, learn, play, and pray for the FAMU campus at Large. We call this space the IMPACT House, a spiritual Living & Learning Experience for our IMPACT FAMUly. The money collected via this offering will help to make this vision a reality.
