Lacy Leaf

A variety of leaves

Notes:

- This leaf is knit from tip to petiole (stem). Length ranges from about 10 to 15 cm

(4-6 inches).

- Just about any weight of yarn and appropriate needles can be used. A thicker

yarn will produce a more solid, textured leaf, and a thinner yarn with relatively larger

needles will make a lacier leaf (like the light green one).

- The first stitch of every row is slipped purlwise to create a smooth selvedge edge.

- To create a centered 3-to-1 decrease, slip two stitches together knitwise, knit one

stitch, and then pass the two slipped stitches over it.

Cast on one stitch

Row 1 (right side): YO K1 (=2 stitches)

Row 2 (wrong side): YO, p2 (=3 st)

Row 3: slip 1, YO, K1, YO, K1 (=5 st)

Row 4 and all subsequent even rows: slip 1, P across

Row 5: slip 1, KI, YO, K1, YO, K2 (=7 st)

Row 7: slip 1, YO, SSK, K1 K2tog, YO, K1 (=7 st)

Row 9: slip 1, YO, K1, YO, slip 2 knitwise, K1, pass slipped stitches over, YO, K1,

YO, K1 (9 st)

Row 11: slip 1, KI,YO, SSK, K1, K2tog, YO, K2 (9 st)

Row 19: slip 1, YO, SSK, YO, SSK, K1, K2tog, YO, K2tog, YO, K1 (=11 st)

Repeat rows 16-19 an additional two times for a standard leaf (like beech or elm).

Or repeat an additional four times for a longer leaf (like chestnut).

Leaf knit with worsted weight yarn and 5 mm (US 8) needles.

Four additional repeats of rows 16-19 were knit.

after last repeat of row 19…

Wrong side (and all subsequent wrong sides): slip 1, P till 2 stitches from end,

slip these 2 stitches purl-wise

Right side: K2tog-bk, YO, SSK, YO, slip 2 knitwise, K1, pass slipped stitches over,

YO, K2tog, YO, K2tog (9 st)
