Type 1 Ultrapure Water Systems 9

The arium® pro DI is a highly efficient water treatment system. The ultrapure water quality it produces exceeds the ASTM Type 1 quality standard.

Water is purified by a three-stage process. In the first two stages, both organic and inorganic components are removed reliably from the feed water by using the specially developed Elemental Kit cartridges. The third purification stage is performed using a Sartopore® final filter, which is connected

directly at the point of use and removes particles and bacteria. The arium® pro offers an even more affordable alternative. Reduced to the essential features, it produces ultrapure water – without any compromises.

Like arium® pro DI, the arium® pro UV fea-tures three-stage purification technology. Yet it additionally uses photooxidation to remove organic components. With two different wavelengths, the horizontally positioned UV lamp (185 | 254 mm) prevents microbial growth and reliably reduces organic compounds to a TOC value of ≤ 2 ppb. Perfectly matched to support photooxidation technology, the Analytical Kit cartridges optimize water purification and specifically remove inorganic and

organic substances. The current TOC values are continuously measured by the option-ally integrated TOC monitor and shown on the display.

The arium® advance EDI version reliably delivers water of consistently high quality at flow rates of 5 or 10 L/h. Based on its patented electrodeonization (EDI) techno-logy and unique iJust function for optimized water usage, this system will help minimize your “cost foot-print” and protect the environment.

Innovative, unique iJust technology in the arium® advance series enables you to optimally use your resources: this clever feature takes your specific feed water conditions into account and controls water usage. What’s more, based on the hardness and CO2 content of your feed water, the intelligent software calculates the cleaning cycles of the system. Therefore, arium® advance EDI saves valuable resources.

The new arium® bagtank system stores purified water safely and reliably until you need it, ruling out the risk of contamination by CO2 thanks to a built-in filter unit. Moreover, this single-use bag eliminates time-consuming cleaning cycles as it is so quick and easy to change out. Forget having to use cleaning chemicals that are hazardous to your health.

Type 3 Pure Water Systems32

The arium® advance RO consistently delivers premium-quality Type 3 (reverse osmosis) water at rates of 8,16, or 24 L/h for standard laboratory reverse osmosis.

Each Type 3 system continuously monitors the water quality: One glance at the display will keep you updated about all important data. That’s why arium® advance RO systems are ideal for routine lab applications, such as supplying feed water to lab instruments like pure water systems, autoclaves, glassware washers, humidifiers and water baths, and for preparation of non-critical buffers and solutions.

The system attains the highest ion retention rates, while ensuring optimal pure water yield. It reliably removes oxidants, heavy metal ions and particulates from feed water. The pure water produced is stored in the arium® bagtank system and, if a Sartopore® 2 150 final filter is used in this system, is nearly free of microorganisms.

The arium® 615DI deionization cartridges are designed to produce highly deionized water.

These cartridges contain highly effective ion exchange resins to remove cations and anions from water by exchanging H+ and OH–. Their uniform and compact mixed bed ensures reliable desalination and optimal utilization of the resin material, reducing conductivity by up to < 0.1 µS/cm.

The arium® line also includes conductivity meters for checking the quality of product water. These convenient options are avai-lable in a choice of LED controlled display or digitally controlled display.

The LED controlled conductivity meter en-ables the user to monitor the conductivity of the product water with a red (> 20 µS/cm) or green (< 20 µS/cm) light. If the water does not meet the user’s quality requirements, the LED will light up in red to alert the user.

The digitially controlled conductivity meter lets the user monitor the con-ductivity by individually defined setpoint limits (0.1–200 µS/cm). The conductivity measurement range is between 0.056 and 200 µS/cm.

Early Detection of Leakages Protects the LaboratoryOnly the early detection of water leakages provides optimal protection against water damage in the laboratory. Leaks are regis-tered by the highly sensitive optical sensor.

In contrast to conventional sensors, this sensor functions independently of conductivity measurement values as these are so low in the ultrapure water area that the activation of the guard is not guaran-teed. Once a leakage is detected the water guard automatically locks the feed water inlet line. An acoustic warning is triggered immediately and the system status can be constantly controlled using the integrated LED display. The sensitive sensors and high-grade materials mean that the arium® water guard is perfect for all ultrapure and pure water systems.

Safe Protection of the RO ModuleThe best protection for a downstream reverse osmosis (RO) membrane is the com-bination of spherical, catalytic effective activated carbon, a catalyst and a depth filter. It reliably removes oxidizing agents, such as free chlorine, heavy metal ions and particle impurities, from the system’s feed water.

A special catalyst is an integral part of pretreatment. It is particularly efficient at removing free chlorine and at a lower temperature and | or higher pH value compared to activated carbon alone.

Apart from preventing deposits, the catalyst reduces fouling processes and in-hibits microbiological growth. The patented cartridge design saves time with its easy installation and replacement.

– Quick and effective adsorption ofimpurities by high grade activatedcarbon

– 5 µm depth filter for the retentionof particles

– Highly efficient catalyst for removingfree chlorine

Reliable Protection of the comfort RO ModulesThe combination of spherical, catalytically active activated carbon with an added catalyst constitutes the best protection for a downstream reverse osmosis (RO) membrane. It reliably removes oxidation agents, such as free chlorine and ozone, heavy-metal ions and particulate contami-nants from the feed water of the system. A special catalyst is an integral part of the pretreatment. It highly efficiently removes free chlorine and, unlike pure activated carbon, does so even at low temperatures and|or high pH. In addition to preventing deposits from forming, the catalyst diminishes fouling processes and inhibits microbiological growth.

The patented cartridge design ensures minimal time expenditure with ultra-easy installation and replacement.

Accessories and Consumables58 arium® RO Modules

Reverse Osmosis Modules with Low-energy MembranesThe arium® RO modules consist of two independent membrane housings whose design guarantees easy installation and reliable operation. Each of the two modules contains a low energy reverse osmosis membrane in a polypropylene housing. The housing has connections for feed water, permeate (product water) and concentrate (waste water). The RO Modules typically enable high recovery rates. This optimizes the water usage while still retaining at least 98% of the ions. Thanks to the backflush with permeate, particles and salts are removed from the surface of the membrane. This results in a longer service life and lower system maintenance costs. In addition, the restarting of the backflush system allows for the immediate dispensing of high quality water.

– Highly efficient reverse osmosis membranes, optimized water usage

– Low-energy membranes for ecological and economical operation

– Backflush with product water increases the service life

– Easy replacement– Constant flow– Consistently high water quality

Unlike vertical units, the temperature gradient is less pro-nounced and does not affect the activity of UV waves. The two different wavelengths reliably removes organic substances (TOC or total organic carbon), effectively pre-venting microbiological growth. Organic compounds oxidize at 185 nm, whereas 254 nm prevents microbiological growth.

– Horizontal installation, optimize temperature gradient

– Effectively destroys organic compounds– Reduces microbiological growth– Easy replacement

Sterile and Particle-free Water DispensingThe arium® sterile-grade filter (Sartopore® 2 150) is a sterile, ready-to-use membrane filter capsule for the most stringent re-quirements. Sartopore® 2 150 membrane filter capsules contain a hydrophilic, heterogeneous polyethersulfone double membrane. It enables an excellent service life and output. The capsule is attached, by a quick connector at the final position and reliably removes all particles and microorganisms in the last water purifica-tion step. A hydrophobic PTFE membrane at the farthest point “upstream” allows for easy and clean ventilation of the capsule.

All pleated Sartopore® 2 membrane filter units are validated as sterile filters for biopharmaceutical applications according to the HIMA and ASTM F-838-05 guide-lines (documentation available). During the manufacturing process, every capsule is integrity tested to meet the highest quality standards and safety regulations.

Effective Removal of Microorganisms for a Long LifetimeWith this cleaning agent, the regular re-moval of the biofilms that develop during water purification is easy and effective. Biofilms especially develop on the concen-trate side of ultrafilters. If biofilms are removed regularly, higher flow rates and longer lifetimes result.

This highly effective solution is prefilled in 50 ml syringes and directly ready for use. It does not form any trihalogenmethane, chloramines, hydrochloric acid or chlorate.

The cleaning agent is non-caustic and degrades into NaCl and water.

– Highly effective against biofilms(consisting of bacteria, fungi etc.)

– Free of organic components (TOC)– Tenside-free– Gentle on the environment

Maximum Service Life of the RO ModuleTwo-stage cleaning set for removing scaling and organic contaminants.

The alkaline substance contains non- foaming tensides that dissolve organic compounds and disperse colloids. The tensides do not remain on the mem-brane surface and can be quickly removed from the membrane surface. Cleaning efficiency depends on the pH value that can be safely maintained over a wide temperature range by the contained buffer substances.

The acidic cleaning agent to remove scaling contains chelate and reducing agents in order to dissolve metallic fouling. Even during cleaning, buffers keep the ideal pH consistently low over a wide range.
