  • L’AVENTURE PEUGEOT MUSEUM

MUCH MORE THAN A MUSEUM, AN ADVENTURE

  • The “Aventure Peugeot” Museum is one of the most important sites in eastern France, the mainwitness of two centuries of industrial saga of the Lion brand. Located in Sochaux, it is voluntarilyrooted in the historical bastion of the Peugeot productions from 1810 to the present day..

    GENESIS AND CREATION

The museum was founded on the initiative of the association "L'Aventure Peugeot",founded in 1982. Its president, Pierre Peugeot, set his main missions at that time to identifyand bring together the different types of manufactured products since 1810 under thePeugeot brand, to take part in events concerning old vehicles or to organize meetings of oldcars, in particular.

The museum opened its doors to the public in July 1988. It displays the collections ofautomobiles, cycles, tools and household goods of the brand organized around foursuccessive periods, from the beginning of the 19th century to the end of the first half of the20th century.

    EVOLUTION

In 2000, a first extension was created, allowing the creation of a space for cars from theyears 1950 - 1970, and a space for "Cycles and Motorcycles". Since May 2010, the museumhas an additional exhibition area of 1500 m² which allows it to present the range ofautomobiles from the years 1980-1990, commercial vehicles from 1894 to 1990, a newspace for racing cars and a modern space for the organization of temporary exhibitions orreceptions in the heart of the museum.

    MUCH MORE THAN A MUSEUM…

  • PRODUCTS OF THE FIRST ACTIVITIES OF PEUGEOT’S INDUSTRIES

The first part of the museum is dedicated to them: This collection unveils a variety ofproducts from laminated articles, saw blades to the first “Grand-Bi”, passing thought thetools, busks of corsets, coffee grinders and sewing machines.

A specimen of the official registration of the Lion’s brand and it’s graphics of 1848 by“Peugeot Frères” is also presented, as well as its evolution to the present days.

    THE FIRST CARS

The 1891 to 1904 period is the era of “Pioneers” which houses the oldest cars in the world, including the “Vis-a-Vis” of 1891, the first gasoline engine car manufactured by PeugeotFrères. The 1905-1918 period is which marks the beginning of the industrial productionshowcases the famous Baby Peugeot which it’s produced in 3000 copies.

From 1919 to 1935 is a transition period which will lead to the adoption of the massproduction car of little cars, including the Quadrilette 161. The excess of the RoaringTwenties was illustrated by the Landaulet 184, a real carriage car.

The meaning of the three digits which starting with the generation 1 and the legendary 201from the 1930’s produced at 142,000 copies was unveiled at this period.

The module from 1936 to 1949 emphasizes the arrival of car bodies all in steel with sleekand aerodynamic style with the “ Eclipse” models, “coupés “ convertible into cabriolet, suchas the 401, 601 & 402, precursors of the current “coupés-cabriolets”.

    MUCH MORE THAN A MUSEUM…

  • THE MASS PRODUCTION

The concept changes with a very large series of accessible models for everyone, producedfrom the 1950s. Indeed, if the 402 was manufactured in 75 000 copies, the 403 will be 20years later produced in 1.3 million copies. This one (the 403) is obviously the flagship modelof this period.

The module from 1950 to 1970 is the one if the generations 3 and 4 high series which coversthe period called “Thirty Glorious years”: This era is the 203’s time, the “renewal” car, theunique model of the brand until 1955, but also the 404 which is the symbol of the brand inAfrica and South America, manufactured in Sochaux, in Nigeria and Argentina.

The most recent period which represents the panel of private passenger car is of coursefrom 1980 to 1990 with the generation 5 and in particular the 205..

    THE COMMERCIAL VEHICLES

The commercial vehicle period covers a century (from 1894 to 1990). Each vehicle presentedis dedicated to a specific use like transportation of goods or people, vehicle for emergencyservices, services to fight against the fire, ambulance or military. Among these notableexamples appears a DMAH of 1948 adapted for Firemen.

    MOTORSPORT

Motorsport is especially highlighted in a dedicated space.

Among the powerful models, the 905 and 908 victorious of Le Mans 24 Hours in 1992, 1993and 2009 are presented as the 205 Turbo 16, double World Rally Champion in 1985 and1986.
