So What?
These factors cause some pretty BIG concerns for all of
us here at LA Academy.
Concern# 1It’s unsanitary.
Unwanted food that is dumped on the table such as meat, chicken bones, fruit
peelsor
trash that is left on the table, such as wrappers, utensils, trays, and plastic forks
are great places for bacteria and viruses to hang out and multiply.
Concern#1 continued:
When the next person arrives at the table, those same bacteria and viruses are ready to find a new home:
• Your hands• Your tray
• Your mouth.
Concern# 2:An unclean eating area is a major attraction for
pests.
Concern # 2continued:
When you leave your unwanted food and trash on the tables, it’s like you are ringing the dinner bell for all kinds of pests.
The problem is that birds, rats, and roaches walk on the tables with feet that have walked everywhere.
Concern # 2continued:
They also go to the bathroom any time they like.
They leave behind unsavory things like urine and feces –
which don’t belong in a cafeteria.
Concern # 3
It’s just
GROSS!
“In Pursuit of Excellence.”
pursuit = to chase in order to attain
excellence = highest quality; the very
best
This is our school motto.
Champions1. Those who battle for what is right and
honorable2. Those who win and show marked
superiority
Put them together:
This is the home of the champions – those who do
what is right and honorableWe pursue excellence here
– we always strive for the highest quality
Champions who strive for the highest
quality will always find solutions.
Sit to Eat.• It’s safer.• It solves the problem of people
who are sitting at the table being left with everyone else’s trash.• It’s just good manners.
Solution # 2Trash your trash!
Trash Your Trash.
• Sometimes when people see someone doing something, they do the same thing too without really thinking about it.
(Don’t believe it? Try yawning!)
• When you leave your trash behind, other people might do the same thing. So…
Trash Your Trash.
Trash Your Trash.
When one of your friends walks away and leaves her or his trash
behind…
Trash Your Trash.Remind that person:
Trash Your Trash.
Trash Your Trash.
• If you have food you don’t want, don’t just put it on the table:
Trash Your Trash.• Put it in one of the areas of your
tray
Trash Your Trash. When you see a trash can that is full,
don’t keep trying to stack trash on top of it.
Find an empty trashcan and
Trash Your Trash.
You might be thinking…“This is the custodian’s job! That’s what they’re
hired to do.”
Wrong! The custodial staff works very hard – to
keep the campus maintained. They were
NOT hired to do the things we can do ourselves.
There’s another reason…
Math Time!On a normal day here at LAAMS, there are 2
custodians at the lunch area.
It takes approximately 3 minutes to clean a table.
There are 87 tables in the picnic area.
There are only 116 minutes between Nutrition and Lunch.
Say that again?3 minutes per table times87 tables =261 minutes to clean the cafeteria.
But there are only 116 minutes between Nutrition and Lunch.
And that is not enough time to have a clean cafeteria if students have left trash and food
everywhere.
oh…
The longer they have to spend cleaning the cafeteria, means the
less time they have for making sure there are enough bathroom
supplies and that we have a smoothly running campus.
So remember: When you are eating in the lunch area
•Sit to Eat.
•Trash Your Trash.
We are the home of the champions!
