TRANSCRIPT
We talked about rhyming before poetry because a lot of poetry uses rhyming words.
Poetry does not have to rhyme, however, and is really about the writer expressing his emotions with the reader. It is usually written in short sentences (or verse) with rhymes, rhythms, or both.
There is poetry everywhere! It is in our reading, our writing, and songs we sing. Actually, our class song is a poem I wrote for you!
Let’s read a few poems by one of my favorite authors, Shel Silverstein. I grew up reading his poems and still love them today! His book is called Where the Sidewalk Ends.
I think this poem is so creative and funny! What did you
think? Take a minute and talk to the person next to you
about what you thought of the poem.
