Article abstractThis article reports on thé contribution of women to the study of bureaucraticorganizations, both private and public. Women's work, either as employees inorganizations or as researchers in this area, has been traditionally invisibleHowever, in the last few years, women have undertaken important researchwork on organizations, in perspectives which are often original andoccasionally subversive. They have been principally concerned with questionsrelating to power in organizations, relations between public bureaucracies andthe recipients of their services, as well as with modes of organization whichoffer alternatives to present forms of management. The authors review andanalyze these studies and attempt to isolate their consequences at the presenttime and in the future.
