13th Annual California Bike to Work WeekThursday, May 17, 2007 Los Angeles County Bike to Work DayLocal Sponsorship Opportunities

Los Angeles Countys Bike to Work Day on Thursday, May 17 is part of the 13th Annual California BikeCommute Week May 14 18, 2007. During this week commuters are encouraged to increase bicycleuse to work as organizers educate and provide information on access to routes, safety, and promotebicycling as an everyday means of transportation. Every year, rideshare agencies, cities, counties, employers, health agencies, bicycle advocacy groups, bike shops and others who support bicycletransportation in California's communities organize activities. Events such as bike tune-up clinics, morning "buddy rides," pit stops, energizing stations, and noon-time rallies are just the many ways inwhich participants are encouraged to bike to work not just for a day or a week, but always makingcycling a viable commuting option.

Metro is organizing Bike To Work Day in Los Angeles County and at this time, the agency is lookingfor in-kind sponsorships for prizes and give-aways to be distributed to participating employers andindividuals. These items will be raffled off as prizes or distributed at countywide public pit stopshosted by Metro and local organizations. Examples of prizes include bicycles, helmets, messengerbags, and other bicycle gear. Other prizes include restaurant gift certificates, store gift cards, anddiscount coupons for in-store products. Food purveyors are asked to provide food products andbeverages for distribution at local events and at pit stops. Monetary sponsorships (cashcontributions) cannot be accepted.

Metro is also looking for organizations or companies interested in co-hosting pit stops throughoutLos Angeles County. Pit stops are locations for bicyclists to stop, relax, have snacks, receive give-aways, and obtain informational materials on bicycling to work. All pit stop co-hosts will be asked toset up booths or tables at a location easily accessible by participating bicyclists and provide food, refreshments, and give-away items to at least 50 people. Co-hosts are encouraged to invite a local

bicycle shop to conduct a bike tune-up clinic at the pit stop as well as invite other organizations toprovide information on the health benefits of bicycling to work or other bicycling related topics.

Be part of the solution! Bike to Work Day is a great opportunity for companies interested insupporting an event that promotes alternative commuting options, healthier lifestyles, and a betterenvironment. Last year we had almost 2,500 Los Angeles County residents pledge online to bike towork. This year we are hoping to double that number, but we need your support. Please review thesponsorship benefits below and decide on the best package for your company. Thank you.
