English Program for international students. Developed job descriptions and hired

all instructors for a new program. Designed and implemented a new academic

2. Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). TESOL is an international association

of 15,000 teachers of ESL/EFL.

TESOL‟09, TESOL‟ 14 Session Adjudicator for the Nonnative English Speakers Interest Section.

Director-at-Large, Board of Directors (BOD) (2004-2007). The responsibilities of the Director-at-

Large include serving as the BOD‟s Liaisons to TESOL‟s caucuses and participating in special

projects as needed.

Faculty Advisor, Mentor, Graduate Student Forum (GSF), TESOL 2002-2004. The GSF is an annual

conference organized by TESOL MA students from three or four schools, with TESOL MA

students at CSULA serving as organizers. As Faculty Advisor, in 2002-2003 and 2003-2004,

supervised the work CSULA TESOL MA students (13 in 2002-2003 and 17 in 2003-2004)

responsible for adjudicating abstracts, developing the conference program and scheduling

sessions, and serving as site organizers. Also organized an annual conference at CSULA where

TESOL MA students (6 in 2003 and 10 in 2004) present their GSF papers and receive feedback

form their TESOL MA peers prior to presenting their papers at the GSF.

Chair (2001-2002), Chair-Elect (2000-2001), Nonnative English Speakers in TESOL Caucus. Elected

position. Oversaw the caucus activities, organized the Annual Colloquium and the Business

Newsletter Editor, Nonnative English Speakers in TESOL Caucus, TESOL Organization, 1999-2000.

Evaluated submissions for the newsletter, invited authors (including graduate students and well

known professionals in the TESOL and applied linguistics field) to submit articles, mentored new

authors, and produced two newsletter issues using Microsoft Publisher.

Task Force member (with George Braine and Jun Liu) and Co-founder, Nonnative English Speakers

in TESOL Caucus, 1996-1998. Initiated the idea of the creation of a Caucus in the TESOL

organization. Gathered signatures supporting the formation of the Caucus in CA and abroad.

Wrote the Caucus‟ Statement of Purpose and Goals.

3. California Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (CATESOL). CATESOL is a

nonprofit organization that represents teachers of English language learners throughout California and

Nevada. CATESOL, founded in 1969, has nearly 4,000 members and is the largest TESOL affiliate in

the U.S.

Committee and sets the agenda for such meetings. In consultation with CATESOL‟s legislative

policy consultant, sets the organization‟s sociopolitical agenda. Is responsible for overseeing the

appointment of the Editors of The CATESOL Journal and CATESOL News.

Secretary (2000-2001), Assistant Secretary (1999-2000). Elected position. Assists the President in

preparation for board meetings, records minutes, coordinates with the President the additions to

the Policies and Procedures Manual. Is a member of the Executive Committee.

Founding member, Nonnative Language Educators' Issues Interest Section, 1999. Member of the

Steering Committee, 1999-present.

Program Chair, Los Angeles Regional CATESOL Conference, 1999. Developed the 100-session

conference program. Organized the abstract Reading Session and communicated with conference

presenters.

Program Chair, 1998 Statewide CATESOL Conference, 1997-1998. Provided leadership for the

development of the 350-session program. Selected the topics for the three plenary sessions and

invited colloquia and identified the plenary speakers and the colloquia chairs. Scheduled all

conference sessions.

Conference Co-Chair, Los Angeles Regional CATESOL Conference, 1996. Was responsible for

overseeing the conference program, consisting of 100 sessions. Identified and supervised chairs

for the conference committees and provided leadership.

Chair, Site Committee, Los Angeles Regional CATESOL Conference, 1995. Assisted with room

selection, evaluated conference abstracts, identified student volunteers from the TESOL MA

Program, assisted presenters as needed on the day of the conference.

than 1,100 scholars who are interested in and actively contribute to the multi-disciplinary field of

applied linguistics.
