Every year, the University of Oviedo receives more than a thousand foreign students. The University of Oviedo is a destination that is highly highly valued by international students owing to its academic prestige and its privileged location. The University of Oviedo offers, through its International Relations Office, a broad network of services to help foreign students to make any legal and academic paperwork easily as well as to find accommodation and participate in mentoring programs. Foreign students will also have a wide variety of cultural, sporting and leisure activities available to them promoted by the University or student associations.

Asturias’ University

The University of Oviedo is a public institution of higher education and research located in the Principality of Asturias. Since 1978, the University of Oviedo has been organizing Courses in Spanish Language and Culture for Foreign Students.

During these years, the courses have gained academic and organizational solidity, now reinforced by their being integrated

The courses offered range from Spanish for beginners to preparation for the Spanish as a Foreign Language Diploma

(Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera - DELE), as well as courses in Spanish language and culture and another

series of more specific courses. There exists a programme of cultural and leisure pursuits that complement academic

activities in which students take on a leading, active role under the control and supervision of teachers.

Spanish for Beginners This course is aimed at students who have no prior knowledge of the language. The programme has been designed around the communicative approach, with a dynamic, enjoyable, practical and effective teaching method that is at all times adapted to student needs and interests.

Spanish Language and Culture These courses combine the main goal of teaching the language with a comprehensive, wide-ranging, yet in-depth view of Spanish culture. They are especially valid for those students who wish to specialise in these matters, but are also suitable and accessible for those whose main area of study is not Spanish.

Intensive Spanish Courses for Exchange Students Via La Casa de las Lenguas, the University of Oviedo also imparts intensive Spanish courses aimed at students participating in European exchange programmes (ERASMUS, SOCRATES, TEMPUS) or specific agreements.

Intensive Summer Courses The University of Oviedo offers Spanish Summer Courses that enable students to combine the learning of the language and the culture with a wide range of cultural and leisure activities, all included in the enrolment fee.

DELE Exams The University of Oviedo is an official examination centre for Spanish as a Foreign Language Foreign Diplomas (Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera - DELE). These are the official certificates accrediting the level of competence and mastery of the Spanish language issued by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education.

Specific courses The Spanish as a Foreign Language Courses are able, at any time, to take on the demand for made-to-order programmes for private groups, companies, entities or institutions that require a specific programme adapted to their needs.
