Safety at WorkSecurity is one of the most important elements in the lives of working people. Mechanics, engineers and technicians work in environments that can be very dangerous and only if the dangers are known, appropriate measures may be taken to protect workers from accidents . Over the years, European governments have added more security to ensure that workers comply with the rules security. The most important of these laws is ‘Health and Safety at Work Act’ (1974) for England and the ‘Legge 626’ (1994) for Italy;

they cover virtually everyone in all types of work, but each company has its own security policies. In every company there must be at least one person for 50 employees which is called First Aider and a person who is in charge of dealing with security issues and to whom you can consult any health problems and security issues that arise at work. They check whether the safety rules are observed.

Hazard in a workshopThere may be many dangerous situations in the workshops, that’s the why the information on the health and safety are usually made available to workers on the notice boards and posters in the laboratory. Warnings signs and symbols are prominently displayed everywhere, a danger or risk is associated with: electrical hazards, handling of hazardous substances, moving and lifting items, and the carriage of cargo, but also with contaminants, smoke, fire and working at heights

A hazard is something that can cause damage, while the risk is the probability that a hazard will cause damage and this may depend on many factors: for example, the personal situation of the worker, the current situation in the world of work, and so on.

Electrical equipment of a certain type are used in every factory, electricity should be treated with respect, because it can kill, and even if not lethal, can cause severe disabilities through shocks and burns. The main dangers arising from the use of electrical equipment are:

-Electrocution: usually occurs in wet or damp conditions. Our body reacts in different modes of electrical current flowing through it, so that shock can cause death;

-Electric burns: they are often caused by electricity flowing through the body tissues, such as the point of contact with the skin of an electric shock;

-Fire can be caused by a number of causes overheating of cables and wires, overloaded electrical equipment, sparks or electrical equipment, etc…;

-An explosion can occur when the electrical current causes vapors flammable gases, liquids and powders to power by electrical sparks or due to high temperature.

Electricity is a force that can produce heat, light, and many other physical effects. All materials that are known, including solid and liquid gas, contain two basic particles of the potential for electric charge: electrons and protons. An electron is the smallest amount of electrical charge that has a feature called negative polarity (-) . A proton is a particle of the base with positive polarity (+). All electricity is produced by the movement of small particles that have an electric charge: positive or negative.

Most of the time there is a condition that is neutral so that the opposing forces are exactly balanced. Changing the balance of forces provides evidence of electricity. When the charges move they create an electrical current.

What Is Electricity?

When the electrons can move easily from atom to atom in a material, then it is a good conductor. Most metals are good conductors, silver is the best and the copper is the second. This is because their atomic structure permits the free movement of electrons. The purpose of using wire is to allow electricity to flow as freely as possible.

A material with atoms in which electrons tend to remain in their own orbits is an insulator because it does not conduct electricity very easily.

Finally, there are semiconductor materials that behave less well than metallic conductors, such as carbon and silicon.
