OBJECTIVES

• Be able to describe the anatomical

boundaries of the face and scalp.

• Be able describe the vascularization and

innervation of the face and scalp.

• Be able describe the structure and function

of the muscles of facial expression.

• Be able to describe the structure and

function of the eyelids.

Page 3: Documentl

OBJECTIVES

• Be able to describe the structure and

function of the lacrimal gland.

• Be able to describe the structure and

function of the external nose.

• Be able to relate the anatomy of the face

and scalp to clinical considerations.

Just remember that part of the nose is bony, and part is cartilaginous (the part that you can see on your face)
Eric M Romain
Most broken noses are just breakage of the cartilaginous septum

This layer often becomes infected
Eric M Romain
Eric M Romain
These three layers are easily pulled off of skull
Eric M Romain
Eric M Romain
These two layers are tightly adherent to skull
Eric M Romain
**scalp bleeds are easily stopped with pressure; skull bones are so near that pressure on overlying blood vessels easily flattens them shut. Head bleeds are not a serious issue unless they occur when individual is unconscious and thus not able to compress bleeding vessels.

All of the head arteries anastomose with each other extensively, hence cutting face of head will lead to much bleeding (until compressed, as mentioned before)

Will NOT be picky to the level of branches for the facial n on the practical; it's too hard to find the branches in lab.

Remember to know the following about blood vessels and nerves: where they come from, what they supply, major branches, and how they terminate.
