We are celebrating our 40th Anniver-sary with a new introduction of Clema-tis - Pink Delight. Pink Delight is 4-6’ tall with clusters of 4-6” blooms of dark pink centers fading to a light pink with white edges. The bloom time for Pink Delight is May and it re-blooms in the Fall. Be sure to add this beautiful Clem-atis, which we hybridized ourselves, to your landscape.

Our doors will open once again on April 13 at both locations. We’re celebrating our 40th year anniversary at our Walworth location, and 13th year at our Canandaigua Garden Center. Orphan Plant Sale- Available at both the Walworth Open House on May 2 and May3, as well as the Cananandaigua Open House on May 9 and May 10. Each year we accumulate quality plants that may have lost their identification tag, be a little pot bound, or just happen to be a variety we don’t offer any longer. These plants need a home and will flourish with just a little patience and care. We decided to offer these “orphaned” plants at both our Open Houses. They will be grouped together in an area and sell up to 70% off their original price! This is a great opportunity for someone who needs to replant or fill in an area and save.Senior Citizens’ Day - is every Wednesday during the 2015 season. Anyone age 65 and older receives 10% discount on their purchase. (Discounts do not apply to special orders or sale items).

Geranium X cantabrigiense ‘Biokovo’This is a ground cover perennial that is 6-8” in height with five petal white flower tinged pink at the base with darker pink center stamens and redder sepals. It has aromatic foliage, round leaf edges with medium green, and is a semi evergreen in most climates that spreads by rhizomatous nature. It is zoned for 4-8, requires full sun to part shade, thrives in all soil types, deer and rabbit resistant, works well in woodland shade gardens, cottage, and rock gardens. It does require well drained soil, deadheading spent flowers to look good, and is an attractive mound with scarlet to orange fall color. The geranium doesn’t need to be

cut back till spring of the year and only the parts that have died back. It accents well with maroon, pink flowers, contrast with silver streak in ferns such as Japanese painted ferns.

Starting April 27, to kick off our 40th Anniversary year, we are going to give you some great gardening, planting, and landscaping hints. In addition, we’ll provide a list of what we feel are the 40 best plants to buy and grow. These picks and tips will be throughout the nursery and marked with signage. We will cover all kinds of plants and trees that we feel are easy to grow and will do well in this area; including details regarding sun or shade and any special care. Follow us on our website www.springvalleygreenhouse.com or check us out on Facebook.

LanDSCaping Services We have a complete landscape design and installation service available. In addition to plantings, we install walks, walls, and patios, and perform

Spring and Fall cleanup and mulching. If you are looking for someone to plant just one tree or do a whole landscape renovation, call us for a free quote.

Orphan pLant SaLeEach year we accumulate plants that happen to be considered odds and ends and not quite perfect to sell. They may have lost their identification tag, be a little odd shaped, be a little pot bound, or just be a variety we don’t offer anymore because of low availability. Whatever the reason, we just keep them. They are in need of a home and will flourish with just a little patience and care. They will be available at both our Open House Festivals, grouped together in an area and sell for up to 70% off their original price. This is a great opportunity for someone who needs to replant their foundation or has limited resources and wants to beautify their home and get a great deal. Be sure to check out the selection when you come our Open House weekends.

ten reaSOnS tO garDen1. The #1 reason to garden is to

reconnect us with nature and the environment. It takes us back to our roots. We all come from the earth and someday will return to it.

2. Gardening relieves stress. It’s been shown that physical activity reduces stress in our lives.

3. Gardening is good exercise. As we get older and get arthritis in our joints, it’s been shown that if we keep those joints moving, it reduces the effects of the disease and can give us a higher quality of life in our later years.

4. Gardening, especially vegetable gardening, gives us a sense of self- sustainability.

5. Home grown vegetables can be harvested right before use; therefore, they taste better and are higher in nutrients.

6. Planting flowers and trees around our homes helps create a sanctuary from the big hectic world.

7. Planting trees and shrubs can create a microclimate around our homes resulting in lower energy bills. Windbreaks can help us save energy in winter and trees are like giant air conditioners in summer, reducing air temperatures by as much as 15 degrees.

8. Trees, shrubs and flowers can draw desirable wildlife such as butterflies and hummingbirds to our patios and porches. Watching these beautiful creatures do their thing is very entertaining.

9. Trees, shrubs and plants in general are natural air purifiers. They filter the air we breathe from dusts and other pollutants. They help to reduce the carbon dioxide concentrations due to burning fossil fuels.

10. Landscaping our properties increases the values of our homes by as much as 20%. Homes that are well-landscaped sell faster and for more money than homes that are not.

Impatient Bounce SeriesThis selection of Impatiens has beautiful, vivid colors that will brighten any area. These plants have a mounding habit of 14” and spread up to 20”. The Bounce series is great for the shade but does well in the sun, too. If watering is occasionally missed, this variety can take it better than other inpatients. Another great thing about them is that they are resistant to the Downy Mildew. So, it’s all good news for Impatient lovers. We will have 5 colors to choose from, so make sure to check them out.

HopsThis Spring we will have 3 varieties of Hops to sell amongst our many Annuals and Perennials. Hops are becoming popular with those who make their own beer. Cascade is one of the most popular varieties in the U.S. craft brewing industry today. Cascade has medium strength of floral/spicy aroma and well balanced bittering potential. Chinook has a highly acceptable beer aroma with smooth bitterness and full flavor. This hops was developed in the U.S.D.A. breeding program in Washington State. The third variety of hops we will have is Galena. Galena is often used in English and American-style ales with balanced bittering and a good aroma. Galena has excellent storage stability. If you would like to make your own beers or ales, talk with us. We’ll be glad to help you.
