PROPOSED AMENmlENT TO THE CONSTITUTION

The fol l owing proposal for amending the NWBA Consti tut ion has been received by the Secretar y and is presented to the membership for review. It wil l be taken up on the agenda of the annual meeting on March 24 and 25 .

Bulova Wa t chmakers ProposaJ (submitted by Seymour Bloom).

Amend Constitution Article Five Membership to read: Section 1 . There shall be two types of Association memberships. l(a) ACTIVE: This membership shall be open t o any and all gr oups of individuals

organized as a team for the pu rpose of playing wheelchair basketball which accepts and observes the principles set for th in the Cons titution and Bylaws of the Association, 1s eligible for membership.

Page 26: l National Wheelchair Basketball ~s;trVpnj~'1i …...Hospital, 255 East Bonita Avenue. Pomons. CA 91767 or by telephone at (714) 593-7521, extension 317. Information about the tournament

Page 4

(b) ASSOCIATE: This membership shall be open groups and/or individuals engaged in interests ~hich are allied to wheelchair basketball but ~ho do not qualify or ~ho do not wish to become active members. Such members shall have a voice but no vote in this association .

(c) LIFE HEMBERSH1P: Only an Associate member may be eligible for life membership. Section 2. Remains the same. Section 3. Classes of Active Memberships. Active memberships shall ..• the rest not

t o be changed. Section 4. Annual Dues. The dues of the Associations memberships shall be prescribed

by the By la\o's. Section 5. and Section 6 remain the same.

Because the following proposed amendment to the Byla\o's Is pertinent to the above. it is also included. All other Bylaws amendments rece ived to date will be distributed In a separate mailing on March 15.

Bylaw changes: Art icle One:

Membership Section I and 2 remain the same. Section 3. Dues to Members :

(a) The annual dues o[ the two classes of active members shall be $125.00. (b) The annual dues for the associate members shall be $25.00. (c) The one time fee for a life membership shall be $250 .00. Items (b), (c) . and (d) shall be changed to conform t o the correct order .

Mr. Bloom provides the following rationale for his proposed amendments: 1. There have been many former athletes who have no other way of remaining "in touch" with

the NWBA unless they happen t o continue being a member of an organized team. ~lan y

cannot due to many circumstances. Yet they would still like to receive the information t o remain aware of the progress of wheelchair basketball.

The fee of $25 . 00 yearly would cover more than the cos ts for this service and could be a fund raising device .

2. LIkewise the Life Membership of 5250 . 00 would more than cover the costs for the similar interes t . Should the fee fail to cover, this could always be changed.

NE\I.'SLETTER PROBLEMS

This issue of the Newsletter is the first one sent to NWBA game officials, physicians and therapists this season. We regret that we have not been able to keep everyone adequately informed about events within the NWBA unt.il now. With the con tinuing growth of the sport and the expanding number of teams. conferences, officers, et al. it has been difficult in recent yea rs to supply everyone on the mailing list with materials and information. Plans are being made to develop a separate Newslet ter for game officials. physicians and therapists which will provide periodic information and which will not tax our limited resources .

Anyone wishing back copies of the Newsletter can obtain them by writing to the Office of the Commissioner.

OWEN'S ~~NUAL AVAILABLE

Ed Owen's newl y pub lished manual, "Playing and Coaching WheelChair Sasketball" can now be pu r chased through the Office of the Commissioner. Please make your check payable to the NWBA. The price is $14.95.
