Brock University’s English as a Second Language Program was established in 1981. ESL Services provides English language instruction for various language learners. Many graduates of ESL Services move on to attend the University as undergraduate students.

Our students come from all over the world and range in age from approximately 18 to 60 years of age. Students attend classes five days a week and receive five hours of English instruction per day. Class times vary according to individual schedules. There are various terms taught throughout the year: three 14-week terms, a five-week summer term, plus other short-term programs.

Open year-round,Youth University offers day-long field trips to thousands of students andyouth across Ontario.

Our programs are designed to createcommunity, support character development andinspire curiosity.

We offer programs to community youthgroups such as girl guides, scouts, church groupsand summer camp groups.

Community Building,Leadership and TeamCelebration ProgramsOur community building, leadership and teamcelebration programs offer innovative programdesign and collaborative hands-on learning in auniversity environment. Respect, co-operationand communication are just a few of the life skillsthat participants will learn during theseprograms.The day will begin with goal setting andgroup energizers. Hands-on problem-solvingactivities and reflection exercises are usedthroughout the morning to build awarenessaround topics such as trustworthiness, decision-making, and teamwork.The day will culminate onour high ropes course or rock climbing towerwhere participants can challenge themselves in anatmosphere of support and encouragement.

Community BuildingOver the course of the day, emphasis will be on building interdependence as groupcommonalities, trustworthiness, group norms andcommunication skills are developed.The groupwill work to recognize commonalities and gainrespect and appreciation for the uniqueness of allindividuals, including themselves.

Team LeadershipThis program is designed to add a new level ofenergy to students that have already becomecomfortable in their roles in the group.This programtheme will focus on problem solving, leadershipstyles, decision making, and conflict resolution.

Team CelebrationHave you had a great school year, won thechampionship or achieved your goals together?This program will help celebrate theaccomplishments you have already attainedtogether.This program allows participants theopportunity to take time out and have funtogether as celebration and mutual respect areemphasized.

Robotics Field TripsDevelop teambuilding, problem solving, computerprogramming and engineering skills with hands-on robotics! We use the LEGO MINDSTORMS®

Robotics Invention System that is popular inmany schools! Participants will start the day withgoal setting and group energizers.The morningwill consist of learning to construct and programa robot, which will lead up to the afternoon’smissions.A flurry of building, programming,testing, and problem solving throughout the daywill conclude with a full-group robot challenge.

Family and Friends Climbing DaysBring the family, neighbours and friends for anafternoon of climbing at our high ropes courseand rock climbing tower. No experience orathletic ability is needed. Let our friendly staffhelp you learn how to climb together safely. Ourhigh ropes course is approximately 30 feet highand offers a variety of tasks and activities, andwith our accessible course all family memberscan choose their level of challenge.You can alsotry scaling our 30-foot climbing tower! Ourtower has five faces and 10 climbs of varyingdegrees of difficulty.

The family and friends climb is a great day ofadventure for those looking to try somethingnew together. All participants under 18 must beaccompanied by an adult and children must be atleast eight years old to climb.
