NIGHTMARE IN NULU: OCTOBER 28TH

A Halloween Cocktail Contest, sponsored by Rabbit Hole, will begin at the First Friday Hop on October 6th and end on Saturday, October 28th. On October 28th, we will have lots of fun activities for the kids to do from 1-4PM! They can Trick or Treat at participating businesses, have their face painted, take a photo with in pumpkin cut out, participate in a scavenger hunt, have a clown create a special balloon animal for them, and participate in painting a children’s mural! Louisville Cream will be selling ice cream and Cotton Candy by Lacey will be available as well! For the adults, we’ll have an Official “After Party” at Galaxie with an adult costume contest and prize. Jacob Floyd’s NuLu History & Haunts Tour will lead two Haunted NuLu Tours: 1PM & 4PM. THE PHOENIX HILL FARMERS’ MARKET The Phoenix Hill NuLu Farmers' Market has a matching grant from the Community Farm Alliance and Hunt Properties to DOUBLE SNAP/EBT and SENIOR FARMERS' MARKET NUTRITION PROGRAM CHECKS. Each Market Day, we can DOUBLE your money—up to $20 for SNAP/EBT and $12 for SFMNP checks (as long as our grant money is available). Flyer is attached if you are able to print out and post/hand out. Please spread the word to any SNAP or SFMNP recipients that you may know. Please forward this email if you know people who can help spread the word. The Market is every Tuesday from 3-6PM (through the end of October) at 1007 East Jefferson Street (corner of Jefferson and Baxter). SHOWCASE The Center for Neighborhoods announces its 2017 Neighborhood Summit Community Showcase taking place on October 28th from 8:30AM–2:45PM at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage (1701 West Muhammad Ali Blvd). The Summit will be emceed by Louisville Metro 4 District Councilwoman Barbara Sexton Smith. It will include a variety of educational mobile workshops, a vendor and information fair, and inspiring general session keynote speakers—all with the purpose to teach new skills, develop new connections, and to energize the work of building a stronger community one neighborhood leader and one community effort at a time. GARNER NARRATIVE

Garner Narrative is pleased to host two events as part of the 2017 Louisville Photo Biennial. Kevin Warth's "Home Sweet Home," photography and installation, opens at garner narrative on Friday, October 6 and runs through Friday, October 27th. The opening reception is First Friday, October 6th, from 6-9PM. Concurrent with the opening reception, the gallery hosts the book launch of Derek Goodwin's Louisville Defiance. Kevin Warth's playful, sly still lives and installation show what "home" means for this young queer artist. "I ask viewers to question the way they see the American household and the values attached to it. Domesticity exists in many forms,"

Warth says. "My photographs offer a glimpse into my own sense of home." Louisville artist Warth is a graduate of the Hite Art Institute at the University of Louisville, with a BFA in 2D Studio Art and a BA in Art History. This is his first show with Garner Narrative. Derek Goodwin, also of Louisville, launches Louisville Defiance, a book of photomontage showing us the "spectrum of color and Possibility" in the graffiti art made in Louisville's marginal and abandoned spaces. Goodwin's photographic practice is to document Louisville's street art, much of which no longer exists in any form, in order to craft a new vision for and of our city. Goodwin writes "I am a Louisville resident, a citizen of possibility… the art of the street is the definition of possibility. Opportunity and possibility go hand-in-hand." The 2017 Louisville Photo Biennial takes place from September 22nd–November 11th and features 50+ photography exhibitions—spanning traditional to contemporary, local to global work—at museums, galleries, universities, and cultural institutions throughout Louisville Metro, Southern Indiana, and surrounding communities.
