FROM THE PRESIDENT AND GM
Welcome to the annual KVIE Art Auction! Leading up to the preview gala and live broadcast of the art auction in September, local and regional artists, staff, volunteers, and art lovers work for months to transform KVIE into the largest arts showcase and auction in our region. During the preview gala and the live auction, KVIE features more than 250 pieces of amazing art by local artists. And there’s something for everyone to appreciate and add to a new or growing collection.
Throughout the year, KVIE’s award-winning programming celebrates our community through stories about artists and their work – and unique experiences in our region. Rob on the Road and KVIE Arts Showcase feature our local art community in addition to bringing national artists to our attention. Access to the arts and other topics locally are available through our productions like Yes! We’re Open, ViewFinder, and Studio Sacramento. Your support makes these programs possible in addition to your favorites like MASTERPIECE, NOVA, Nature, and FRONTLINE. The KVIE Art Auction is a unique experience for everyone in the community. With the generosity of volunteers, businesses, framers, galleries, and bidders like you – the art auction fosters conversation and insight into our arts community. Thank you for making our 35 years of art on KVIE a festive and fulfilling experience. Happy bidding and collecting! David Lowe President and General Manager

FROM THE CURATOR
I was an elementary school kid in the
1970s when my mother would volunteer
at KVIE (back then we just called it
“Channel 6”) and we would eagerly wait to
see the live auction on our old black and
white TV. At that time it was a general live
auction selling everything from fancy trips
and handbags to original art. The
excitement of the “quickie cart” was
overwhelming – watching people call in
and buy things like a rake for $5.00!
Local artist Jerald Silva likes to tell a story about one of his paintings
being sold together with two bags of fertilizer back in the “old days.”
Fast forward to 2016, our live auction became an art auction 35 years
ago and has grown from the black and white chaos that entertained me
as a child into a high definition art gallery featuring the best and
brightest northern California artists. This transformation came from
years of hard work by volunteers backing Gloria Burt, who founded the
original (non-televised) art auction and nursed it into the 3-day live
production it is today.
With almost 700 entries to select from these 270 pieces represent just
how far KVIE and our talented artists’ have progressed. This year
EVERY piece will go to an excited collector and all the money raised will
ensure that my favorite TV station as a child will be my favorite station in
my old age! With your continued support KVIE will present the largest
live televised art auction for years to come.
