The ICP Regional team for Western Asia region, held a training meeting for Kuwait ICP National team in the Central Statistical Office, Ministry of Planning, Kuwait. The meeting was scheduled for four consecutive days extending from the 5th to the 8th of March 2012.

The meeting hosted the National Coordinator, price expert, National Accounts expert and price consultant from the CSO of Kuwait.

Meeting Objectives

The meeting focused on the following objectives:

- The training on National Accounts questionnaires/activities; - The training on the ICP Kit; - The training on HHC data entry and validation modules; - The training on ICP Special Surveys: Operational Materials and Modules; - The obtaining of validated HHC Q3 data.

Achieving these objectives was crucial for the participation of Kuwait in the upcoming fifth ICP Regional Workshop insisted Mr. Majed Skaini, Regional Coordinator for Western Asia Region, when he met, and the ICP regional team, with the Assistant Under Secretary for Statistical Sector, Ms. Mona Khalaf Al Daas.

Attendance

The meeting was hosted by the CSO of Kuwait, and was attended by a total of 5 participants.

Day 1: National Accounts 05-03-2012

The first day was dedicated exclusively to National Accounts activities. The Regional team met with Kuwait ICP team, and performed presentations concerning the role of NA in ICP, the NA activities, the ICP classifications and Basic Headings, the reporting requirements, the approaches for splitting GDP expenditures and other related topics.

First day sessions included practical exercises covering MORES and its six steps, as well as the GDP Exhaustiveness questionnaire with a thorough explanation of the 7 levels of adjustments.

The Regional team carried out an evaluation for Kuwait's NA data submitted previously to the RO and the National team, in its turn, agreed to take all recommendations into consideration.

Day 2: ICP kit 06-03-2012

As Kuwait ICP team was newly formed, the Regional team took care to re-introduce the ICP, its objectives, its surveys and its kits to the National team.

The sessions of the second day were reserved to practical work on HHC data entry and validation modules. The Regional team explained every step of the process of HHC survey and answered the queries raised by the new team.

Day 3: Data validation and Special Surveys 07-03-2012

First part of day 3 was dedicated for the Intra-country validation process. The practical work on the intra-country validation continued, and the National team was concerned to inquire about several points; consecutively, the Regional team clarified and answered all the raised queries.

Second part of this day, was reserved to discuss a number of the ICP special surveys. This session featured presentations, clarifications and recommendations concerning the following surveys: Machinery and Equipment, Government Compensation and Private Education.

Day 4: Special Surveys 08-03-2012

The final day featured presentations which covered the remaining special surveys: Health, Construction and housing. The Regional team also answered questions and queries which were raised by Kuwait ICP team regarding HHC modules, special surveys modules and special surveys questionnaires.

In addition, the National team succeeded, with the directions of the Regional team, to validate and submit its HHC data for Q3 in a cleaner version with the end of the day, which secured Kuwait’s active participation in the 5th ICP workshop which was held few days after the training mission.

The final day was then concluded, and the Regional team thanked the Assistant Under Secretary for Statistical Sector, Ms. Mona Khalaf Al Daas for her much appreciated collaboration throughout the training, and CSO’s esteemed contribution to the great success of the meeting.
