a. The table shows how the velocity of the scooter changes with time.
Velocity (m/s) 0 3 6 9 12 15 18 21 21
Time (s) 0 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16
i. On the graph paper provided, draw a graph of velocity on the y-axis against time
on the x-axis to represent Robert’s journey with his scooter. [4]
ii. Using the equation a = 𝒗−𝒖
𝒕, find the acceleration of Robert’s scooter in the first
14 seconds.
____________________________________________________________________
__________________________________________________________________[2]
iii. Underline the correct words: The area under the graph represents (the velocity,
the distance, the deceleration). [1]
iv. Calculate the distance the scooter moved while travelling at constant speed.

b. After 16 seconds, Robert sees the red traffic lights which are 55m away.
This table gives information about the thinking and braking distances of the scooter.
Velocity m/s Thinking distance /m Braking distance /m
21 14 35
i. Use the information in the table and the equation 𝒗 =𝒔

(increases, decreases, remains the same). [2]
7. This question is about SOUND WAVES.
A technique called ultrasonic cleaning is often used to get rid of
the dust, dirt, oils, and other particles attached to small objects.
Inside the cleaner, water molecules are made to vibrate rapidly
and the objects are cleaned.
a. i. Fill in the blanks:
Ultrasounds are sounds that have a frequency higher than_______________ Hz. [1]
ii. Are these waves in the audible (hearing) range of human beings? Explain.

b. Keith and Sue set up the following apparatus to measure the speed of sound in air.
i. Write numbers from 1 to 5 to show the correct order required to carry out the
experiment. [5]
Ring the bell in front of microphone A.
Note the time recorded from the data logger and take repeated
readings.
Set the two microphones away from each other and measure the
distance between them.
Use the measurements obtained to calculate the speed of sound.
Connect the microphones to the data logger and launch the software.
ii. The two microphones are 3.4m apart and the data logger recorded a time of 0.01s
for the sound to travel between the microphones. Calculate the speed of sound in air.

8. This question is about the PROPERTIES OF WAVES.
The diagram represents wave crests in a ripple tank. The wave crests travel from deep
water towards a straight boundary where the water becomes shallow.
a. Underline the correct words:
i. A (spherical dipper, data logger, horizontal bar) is used to produce straight waves.[1]
ii. Water waves are transverse waves. In a transverse wave particles move at
(90o, 45o, 180o) with the wave motion. (Light, Sound, Motion) waves are also
transverse. [2]
b. i. Complete the diagram above to show what happens to water waves in the
shallow section. [2]
ii. Underline the correct words: As water waves pass over the shallow part, the
wave velocity (decreases, remains the same, increases) and frequency of the waves
(decreases, remains the same, increases). [2]
iii. Use the equation 𝑣 = 𝑓 × 𝜆 to calculate the velocity of the waves if these waves
have a wavelength of 0.05m and a frequency of 20Hz.
