The CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System is designed to treat tumors anywhere in the

body with sub-millimeter accuracy. Using image guidance technology and computer

controlled robotics, the CyberKnife System can continuously track, detect and correct for

tumor and patient movement throughout the treatment. Because of its extreme precision,

the CyberKnife System does not require invasive head or body frames to stabilize patient

movement, vastly increasing the system’s flexibility. The CyberKnife System provides an

additional option to many patients diagnosed with previously inoperable or surgically

complex tumors.

The KUKA Robot Patient Positioner (RPP, KR240L210 MED) guides a patient couch relatively to a particle beam.

The ceiling mounted robotic x-ray imaging system (RIC, KR240 C MED) verifies the tumor position. In case the pre-calculated tumor position is not exactly congruent with the acquired X-ray-data, an offset vector will be calculated and send to the robot (RPP controller).

The patient positioner (RPP) corrects the position automatically in relation to the calculated offset vector until the tumor is precisely at the appropriate position. The special KUKA safety- and anti collision technology ensures the robots working safely together.
