In November 2008, the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) re-opened with the
first public viewing of its new Frank Gehry designed interiors and
exteriors, including the unveiling of the Thomson Collections of Ship
Models and European Art. We are proud to say that the international
partnership between kubik-Maltbie and Click Netherfield played a key
role in the event, the two companies having teamed up to create a range
of stunning environments, beautiful displays and one-off showcases to
house the remarkable collections.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be a part of the Transformation AGO. It’s an
honor for our team to produce and install such creative and beautiful
displays and to be able to work with an outstanding partner like Gehry
International,” said Sam Kohn, President & CEO, kubik-Maltbie.
The team’s work includes 17 spectacular free-standing curved glass
showcases for the Thomson Collection of Ship Models and 38
custom-built wall-mounted and free-standing cases for the Thomson
Collection of European Art.
Kohn adds “So many experts thought this type of case-work
construction simply couldn’t be done, but as visitors to the AGO will
clearly see, they forgot to tell our team that.”

kubik Takes Flight With Bombardier
One of our most exciting new assignments for 2009 comes from
Bombardier Inc. Our task was to design, build and install everything
needed to support Bombardier’s 3-year International Air Show
presence, covering 5 major events in Paris (twice), Dubai, Singapore, and
Farnborough.
The tour begins with the 100th anniversary of the International Paris Air
Show – Le Bouget, one of the world’s premiere aerospace events. “With
2,000 exhibitors from 42 countries and more than 360 entertainment
chalets on-site, it’s imperative that our design helps Bombardier stand
out from the competition and helps facilitate a high-profile and
productive presence,” said Sam Kohn, President & CEO, kubik.
kubik created a strikingly modern new environment for Bombardier,
reflecting the company’s commitment to engineering excellence and
fine design. The fully modular, environmentally sustainable
environment took full advantage of new display technology from
another Canadian firm, DIRTT. The 10,000 sq. ft. structure has dedicated
spaces for entertaining, meetings, demonstrations and dining. It’s a
complete traveling business office and hospitality chalet. The kubik crew
can quickly break down the whole structure into 8 shipping containers
for easy and safe transport anywhere Bombardier needs to go.
At kubik we’ve seen dramatic growth in our international events
hospitality business. From designing, building and transporting
hospitality pavilions in six countries around the world for ABN AMRO to
the stunning transformation of shipping containers into a series of
hospitality pavilions, and a merchandising store with a night club
setting for PUMA, kubik excels at creating innovative, imaginative
environments.

In Touch With Power: All New Visitor Centresfor E.ON KraftwerkeTo meet the increasing demand for energy, E.ON Kraftwerke, one of the
largest energy producers in the world, is planning several new power
stations in Europe. In order to ensure a clear and open dialogue with all
interested stakeholders, E.ON Kraftwerke’s plan includes the creation of
visitor centres in the vicinity of each new plant.
kubik was selected by E.ON to design and develop the concepts for
these 3-storey visitor centres. kubik developed designs that worked to
engage local communities and encourage open and positive dialogue.
Our team proposed a flexible design approach featuring modular
prefabricated units. This enables each community to create a visitor
centre that best suits their needs while giving E.ON units that can be
re-used and tailored for each local community.
The visitor centres feature custom-made interactive displays that
explain the technical aspects of the new power plants, and inform
visitors about the environmental aspects of power generation, power
consumption - such as calculating their own carbon footprint - the
options and implications of different energy mix scenarios (solar, wind,
gas, coal, etc.) and how and where the power plant fits in the world of
energy supply.

Big Hulk andLow Bulk forCryptologickubik had a big job to do for Cryptologic’s new tradeshow exhibit. We
had to design an area that allowed the client to interact with their
visitors in various ways - greet their guests at a reception counter, have
meetings in a private space, and showcase their demos on plasma
screens and computer stations.....all within one triangular space.
Not only did the exhibit have to fit an unusual triangular space the first
time it was used, it also needed to adapt to more conventional
arrangements at other events in the future. The kubik team took their
cue from a Super Hero design theme and created an efficient modular
display that used a minimum number of moveable wall panels to create
an environment for bigger-than-life-size Marvel characters Spiderman,
Iron Man and of course, the HULK himself, all standing on cubes that
floated above the display in super-power fashion.
The booth was designed and manufactured at our Toronto facility, then
shipped to Europe for installation by the kubik Amsterdam team.

Harley-Davidson Museum Showcases Legendary Motorcycles
The Harley-Davidson Museum opened its doors to visitors after years of
planning. The new museum features a stunning collection of motorcycles,
archival material and memorabilia. With over 100 years of tradition; and
dedicated to the company that bears its name as well as, the enthusiasts’
who own and ride Harley-Davidson’s; the museum will surely be a
destination experience. The 130,000 square foot museum features
40,000 square feet of exhibit space as well as, restaurant, café, retail shop,
meeting space, special events facilities and the Company’s archives.
kubik–Maltbie was selected and responsible for the fabrication and
installation of all exhibits. One of the many showpieces of the new
museum is a life-sized, still-action recreation of a 1920’s board track,
complete with race bikes banking 45-degrees on a corner. kubik-Maltbie
was able to scale, recreate and install the board track based on historic
photographs of track events.
For kubik-Maltbie, the honor of winning and working on such a
prestigious project is equaled only by the opportunity to collaborate
with a team of respected partners.
“It’s been a pleasure working on this project. From the tremendous
leadership shown by the Harley team to the outstanding design work of
Pentagram, it has been a great team to work with,” said Gary Brooks,
Executive Vice President, kubik-Maltbie.

No-one Feels Empty After Visiting kubik at EXHIBITOR2009
In a year of tight budgets and even tighter cost control, kubik arrived at
the EXHIBITOR2009 show in Las Vegas with a lesson for everyone on how
to do more with less on the trade show floor.
The EXHIBITOR show is the largest exhibition of exhibit and event
products and producers in North America. And according to industry
insider “Trade Show Bob” and others, kubik “stole the show”.
Our booth was created in-house and titled "Cutting Back Shouldn't
Leave You Feeling Empty”. We found simple innovative ways to make an
impact, without breaking the bank, and packaged “25 tips and ideas to
cut costs” into a branded brown paper lunchbag that became “the”
collectable on the floor.
Click on the link below to see what trade show Bob had to say about the
kubik booth.

Cars and kubik – A Perfect Partnership
It’s a challenging time for the automotive industry, and now more than
ever, the leading thinkers are turning to kubik to help get their ideas and
innovative products into the public eye.
A UNIQUE CONCEPT FOR THE AMSTERDAM MOTOR SHOWTo celebrate its 110th anniversary, the Amsterdam Auto show invited
kubik to help create an innovative new approach to showcasing a
diverse collection of vehicles from car-makers all around the world.
kubik proposed something radical: rather than group vehicles by brand
or manufacturer, why not group them by the way they are used?
Vehicles were exhibited in imaginative, specially created thematic
environments, with cars grouped into six specific worlds: Family & Travel;
Cabrio; Luxury & Sport; Adventure, City & Compact; and Green
Innovations. Automotive manufacturers, brands and dealers would
have their own corporate lounges and reception areas set-up in a
dedicated exhibition hall.
“We anticipated the current market conditions in the automotive world
and wanted to do something creative and new with our show”, says
Fernand Molenschot tradeshow manager for the Amsterdam Motor
Show. “This out-of-the-box approach from kubik offers car manufactures
an excellent opportunity to display their latest models in an exciting
new way that is also very cost-effective.”
