preparee stUdent improvisation teamis an improvisation company for and by students. Since 2000, Preparee has organised weekly training sessions where you can become acquainted with improvisation theatre. Everybody is free to attend the workshops. The Modaté Dance Company was founded in 2012 on the initiative of the Culture Committee and the University Sports Centre. LOKO Culture is part of the Leuven Student Council (LOKO) and endeavours to bring art and culture closer to the students in Leuven. Through its activities, LOKO Culture provides dynamic new talent with a forum while also giving enthusiastic volunteers the oppor-tunity to gain experience in helping to organise cultural events. The events organised by LOKO Culture are cheap and accessible, in order to attract, introduce and involve as many students as possible in a range of cultural and artistic forms.

LOKO Culture’s best-known event is undoubtedly the visual arts festival Ithaka, the 24th edition of which will be organised in 2016. Each year, the festival discovers young visual artists to develop location-specific projects for particular places in Leuven. Young performing talents are given the opportunity to demonstrate what they have to offer to the public at the InterFaculty Theatrefestival.

Furthermore, LOKO Culture organises numerous other activities, such as Het Groot Dictee der Leuvense Studenten (The Great Dictation of Dutch-Speaking Students) and excursions to the opera, dance and theatre. These are all organised on the request of the student associations, who provide important input. LOKO also supports initiatives organised by the associations themselves.[i] LOKO Culture is always looking for volunteers to help organise its activities. STUK – a centre for dance, image and sound – is a fixture in Leuven’ cultural landscape. Founded as a student movement, STUK has become one of the most important cultural centres in Flanders.From late September to May, STUK organizes a varied selection of dance performances, film, exhibitions, music, media arts and lectures. In short, STUK is the place to be for a dose of great culture. Get to know STUK for free at the beginning of the new season (STUK START) or visit one of our international festivals like the live art festival Playground or Artefact, a festival for art, media and music, which is unique in Belgium.

As a dance centre, STUK of course organizes a varied and exciting dance programme, featuring artists and choreographers such as Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Wim Vandekeybus, the Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui dance theatre company, but also Flanders Ballet. In consultation with the Culture Committee, the advisory Committee for Contemporary Art and Academic Heritage Committee and the offices involved Vice Rector Katlijn Malfliet has drawn up the Cultural Policy Plan 2013-2017. LeUvens cULtUUrpLatformLeUven cULtUre pLatformThe Leuven Culture Platform is a discussion forum in which the university, the Leuven University Colleges, the city and the various cultural centres can meet and engage one another.
