components extending the service life to beyond 15 months.

ENVIRONMENT DESCRIPTION
All slurries contain nickel and some nickel sulphides.
The general applications for these pumps are:
• Cyclone Feed Pump - 65% solids, 3.2 solids SG, 1.81 pulp SG
• Floats Feed Pump - 35-40% solids, 3.2 solids SG, 1.32 pulp SG
• Scavenger Tail Pump - 38% solids, 3.2 solids SG, 1.35 pulp SG
• Filter Feed Pump - 70 % solids, 4.2 solids SG, 2.1 pulp SG

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION - VOLUTE
• Discharge of volute
always wears heavily
no matter what the
pump application.
• Volute walls typically
have even wear
around casing.

SOLUTION - VOLUTE
Volute was lined with up to 12mm of ARC MX1, machine finished and followed by coating with ARC 855.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION - SUCTION PLATE
• Typical wear around centre of cover plate – particularly when impeller does not appear to be adjusted correctly.
• Edges of cover plate often rounded due to wear.
• Depth of wear varies depending on how long the plates are left in service and the rate of wear depends on the pump application and speed.

Between 6-10mm of
ARC MX1 was
applied and machined
to specifications.

Stuffing box wears heavily on face in all applications.

SOLUTION – STUFFING BOX
Stuffing box was rebuilt
with ARC MX1 and
machined to ensure an
overall plate thickness of
20mm was maintained.

RESULTS – AFTER 15 MONTHS
After 15 months in
service the customer
has inspected the
components including
the suction plate and
volute to find “very
minimal wear”.
