Design today has become very fashionable with many popular television programs devoted to design in the home and the clothes we wear, even the food we eat can be “designer”. Many every day products including sportswear, electronic goods, furniture and readymade meals are designed and manufactured to give the maximum performance and visual impact.

Technology is another word in everyday usage often associated with computers and modern communications but the word can refer to manufactured materials, machines, devices and systems used in everyday life. The “technology” bit doesn’t have to be complicated as many simple products are developed using new technology.Design and Technology is a creative subject where you develop your design skills and utilise technology to design and make usable products.

Creative Technologies Textiles is a skills based subject that follows the design process used in industry. Through different projects you will learn how to follow a Design Brief with consideration to target markets and costing. You will cover a range of Research techniques that use the internet, questionnaires and product analysis. They create their own Design Ideas and develop them into a working product. You will understand industrial methods of production whilst still learning the basic skills of Making. You will analyse and Evaluate your products. You will assess your practical work and set targets for improvement. You may use IT skills in the presentation and communication of your work. You will learn in a safe environment and are encouraged to be confident, independent and creative.
