Week 1Op Art Continued

Op Art hands..Your first task this half term is to continue your exploration into ‘Op Art’. This is a research-based task, requiring you to write some analysis and search for some images.

TASK 2 IMAGERY:There are certain principles of Op Art, for example: Movement, 3D and Illusion. Research these three principles and collect your own three images which represent them. You could add them on the same document as your analysis. EXT- create your own pieceof Op Art using one or more of the principles.

TASK 1 ANALYSIS:Write 100+ words about the genre of Op Art based on your own research. Follow these prompts, do not copy from the internet.

1. What is ’Op’ short for?2. When did the Art movement occur and

who were some of it’s famous Artists?3. Choose one of the Artists you discover and

describe one of their works.4. Describe the style of the Art- content,

colour, meaning etc..5. Give your opinion- what do you think of

the Art movement and why?

Week 2Recording Patterns

Recording patterns..Patterns appear all around us; in the home, outside, within both mad-made and natural structures. The term ‘Recording’ in Art means to evidence something-generally by drawing it, but you can also record by making notes or ‘annotating’.

Explore your own environment, both inside and outside, try to notice as many patterns as possible. Eg- bricks, tiles, bark, wallpaper, plants

Once you have found some patterns, carefully record them in your sketchbook or on paper, like the example on the right. You could use a pencil or colour. Try to capture the detail and texture within the pattern through careful mark-making. Alternatively, you could take a rubbing of the pattern by putting your paper on it and rubbing over the top with a pencil, crayon, chalk or pastel. Aim to record 6 different patterns!

Week 3Texture Collage

EXT- Research a famous Artwork and try and make a textured collage version of either the whole piece or a section of it!

COLLAGE EXAMPLES

Van Goghs ‘Starry night’

TEXTURE SUGGESTIONS:Magazines, Newspapers,Carboard, Cereal boxes, Sponge, Tin Foil, Fabric, Bubble wrap, Buttons, String, Pasta, Lentils, Food packaging- eg Crisp packets/ wrappers etc

Texture collage..Texture means the way something feels: rough, bumpy, smooth etc. This task requires you to gather a variety of textures (ask before you take!) and create a textured collage in either an abstract or realistic style. A collage is a piece of Art made by sticking various materials such as photographs, pieces of paper or fabric on to a backing. You will need glue and scissors, but you can also rip textures for a more interesting effect. Please have a look at the examples provided for inspiration!
