Shivarathri Celebrtations

Shivarathri celebrations started at 6.00 PM on 18th February, 2015 with Bhajans by the

students followed by Ganapathi homam, which was performed by Mr. Thyagaraja of Cultural

Education Department. Dr. T.S.B. Sudharshan, Chair-CSE and Dr. Shikha Tripathi, Chair-ECE

were the Yajamanas for the homam.

Many activities like short plays of Lord Shiva and Bhaktha Kannappa, Lord Shiva and

Bhasmasura were enacted. The students chanted Mrityunjaya mantra for one lakh times. Also

the students of Soch Bharat team gave a beautiful presentation of the various Jyothir Lingas

present across India. Following that was a presentation on Aghoris by Mr. Shankar Kumaran.

Also the Soch Bharat team conducted a quiz on various concepts related to India and its

culture. Some of the questions were related to one of our greatest epic „The Mahabharata‟. One

student performed the tandava dance of Lord Shiva. The program successfully concluded with

an Abishekham to Lord Shiva along with an Arati at 6.00 AM next day i.e. on 19th February,

2015.

Smriti, the Photography club conducted a Photography Week from 22nd to 28th February,

2015. Workshops on Basics of Photography, Advanced Photography, Adobe Photoshop light

room, Competitions in Spot Photography and Pixels to Words (in collaboration with the Press

club) and Photo Booth, a fun event were the highlights of the week long sessions.

International Conference on Computing and Network Communications to be held during

December 16th -19th, 2015 at Techno Park, Trivandrum hosted by Indian Institute of

Mr. A.A. Nippun Kumaar attended IEEE Bangalore Section AGM held on 15th February,

2015 at Royal Orchid, Yelahanka, Bengaluru.

Dr. Bala Srinivasan, Professor at Monash University, Australia visited Bengaluru Campus

on 23rd of February, 2015 and also addressed CSE students with a talk on “Big Data”.

Department of CSE organized a talk by Dr. Ravi Chandran Nayar, Dean, Centre for

Academic Research, Consultant Otolaryngologist, Health Care Global Enterprises Ltd

[HCG], Bengaluru & Honorary Professor at PES Engineering College, Bengaluru. He is also

the Past President, Bangalore Branch Association of Otolaryngologists of India and

Chairman-Sub Committee on Research - Indian Academy of Otolaryngology Head & Neck

Surgery. He started his talk by bringing up the importance of Engineering in Nature and

Human Life. The talk gave an insight of how Biological Systems and Engineering

Mechanisms complement each other. The talk was aided with presentations and videos of

how Robots behave like human, how electricity is captured in nature through electric wheel

etc. He emphasized on the point that Nature is the base of all innovations. The talk was

mainly centered on Bio Medical innovations and its future perspective. It was followed by

discussion by the speaker with the faculty members with regard to research related topics in

terms of medical images, medical data and data analytics. The program was co-ordinated by

Dr. Tripty Singh.

FACE - the Departmental Forum organized:

A workshop on Python - „Pythoninja‟ on 21st February, 2015. The workshop started

with an introductory session by the speaker, Mr. Suhas S.G., who is an alumnus of

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Bengaluru and is currently a Data Scientist at

Gramaner, Hyderabad. Information about the functionality of Interpreter &

Compilers and more about how Python works were elaborately provided to the

participants. Python Programming Concepts and its practical implementation were

clearly explained and were illustrated through various hands on exercises. Goodies

like Mobile Phones and Pen Drives enabled a positive competitive environment of

learning among the students. The session was highly interactive and was rated as an

excellent learning experience by the participants.

A “Hands-on Workshop in Bluetooth Controlled Bots” on 21st February, 2015. The

workshop focused on teaching - How to control a Mobile Robot using a Smart Phone

with Bluetooth Technology. This workshop was an extension workshop of the hands

-on session on Basic Robotics Workshop which was held on 1st & 2nd November,

2014. This was an intra-college event in which 18 teams (3-4 members per team) had

participated. The workshop was conducted by the senior students of B.Tech. and

M.Tech.

Open Seminar-I titled “Stability and Control of a Biped Robot Walking on an Uneven

Terrain”, on 14th February, 2015 at Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru.

A technical talk was arranged by Dr. R. Karthikeyan on 23rd February, 2015 at Amrita

School of Engineering. The talk was delivered by Mr. Vishnuvardhan J., Managing

Director, Trend Instrumentation and Automation Pvt. Ltd., on “Role of Instrumentation

Engineers in Core Industries”. The Speaker holds the award of “Youngest Entrepreneur of

the year 2014” in executing turnkey projects. The topics covered were Introduction to

Industrial Instrumentation, scope of work for an Instrumentation Engineer, roles of an

Instrumentation Engineer, how a core industry operates, expectations of core industries from

Instrumentation Engineers, job opportunities available for Instrumentation Engineers etc.

The talk was arranged for students and faculty members. Around 100 students of S6 & S8 of

EIE attended the talk.

Dr. N.S. Murty attended the Board of Studies Meeting of Department of Electronics and

Communication Engineering of Alliance College of Engineering & Design, Alliance

University on 21st February, 2015 at Alliance University.

ECIF - the Departmental Forum organized:

An event named NicList. The event is a Video Presentation Series by ECIF, planned

to be held every 2 weeks for the students of all years. The aim of the event is to

introduce the students to modern technological advancements in the field of

Electronics and Communication. The first session of the series, „Technology Today‟

was conducted on 4th February 2015, at the E-Learning Hall.

The agenda for the day consisted of three presentations on-

Bionics- The Future of Prosthetics

Circuit Scribe- Writing New Circuitry

Sound Visualization- A Relation Between Sound and Matter

The implementation videos of these topics sparked an interest in the students to learn

more about these technologies. The presentation was concluded with a video of a

Voice Control System which was built by the members of ECIF. The event had an

encouraging response from more than 90 students whose feedback showed that they

want the continuation of the series. They also expressed an interest in a workshop for

the Voice Control System shown during the event.

The first of four tutorial sessions on Hardware Descriptive Language titled „Intro to

HDL‟ on the 27th February, 2015. The 2 hour session was presented by Sreenath

C.A. and Krishnan A. of S6 and was targeted towards an audience of both second

and third year ECE and E&I students. The session focused on the design of Digital

systems, importance of HDL and its applications and also gave an introduction to

Verilog and its modules. The event drew interest from a good number of students

who participated actively on friday afternoon. The participants look forward to learn

the Hardware language in greater detail, that motivates the forum to conduct further

sessions. Around 40 students participated in the session.

The first of two sessions of the workshop on "Digital Signal Processors and Applications"

on the 14th of February 2015. The 2 hour session was presented by Mr. Akanksh B. and

Mr. Raghunandan of S8 and was targeted towards an audience of both third year ECE and

EIE students. The participants look forward to learning the Processor in greater detail that

motivates us to conduct the next session, which is scheduled on 6th March 2015. Around 50

students participated in the first session of the workshop.

Mr. Nithin A. from S8 participated as a contestant in 63.5-67 Kg weight category in the

Senior and Cadet in the age group of 19-37 at the 5th MTI PRO AM National Muaythai

Championship. He secured third place and won Bronze Medal in the competition. He is the

only contestant selected from Karnataka. The Championship is organized as per the IFMA

and MTI Rules and Regulations held at Jorethang – South Sikkim from 28th January to 5th

February 2015. Muaythai India (MTI) National Federation is Sole National Governing Body

of Muaythai Sport recognized by the Indian Olympic Association Affiliated to International

Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA), federation of Amateur Muaythai of Asia

(FAMA), Member of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). He was one of the few participants

selected from University. He has now been selected to represent India from Amrita Vishwa

Vidyapeetham in the World University Cup to be held in March 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand

under the patronage of FISU International University Sports Federation.

Engineering Department. The workshop included the briefing of the LaTex environment

pertinent to manuscript generation for various journals such as IEEE Transaction, Elsevier,

Springer, IJEEPS etc. The introductory part of the orientation involved even Bibtex usage for

references and citations. Around 19 faculties from various departments attended the session.

A seminar for 115 students of S4 on 13th February, 2015 on the topic “Trends in Modern

Day PLM” by EDS Technologies Pvt. Ltd. The speaker of the day was Mr. M.

Bhanuprakash Dixith, Centre Head (Learning) EDS Technologies, Bengaluru. The students

were introduced to the current opportunities in the field of product Lifecycle Management

and its usage in product design. The session was highly interactive. Students actively

participated in the discussion with professionals from the industry.

An Industrial Visit to Chennai for 55 students of S5 on 26th and 27th of February, 2015. The

students visited the premises of Danfoss India Pvt Ltd., on 26th February, 2015. Danfoss is a

Fortune 500 company involved in the production of refrigerants and valves. The students

visited the assembly line of the pressure process controller and air moisture filter. On 27th

February, 2015 a visit was made to the Manufacturing Unit - II of On Load Gear Pvt. Ltd.,

who are major manufacturers of Vacuum Circuit Breakers, Switch Panels, Gear Boxes and

Gears. The entire trip was organized to serve as a bridge between the students learning and

understanding. The students were exposed to the routines and practices followed in

factories. Mr. Ravi Kumar V. and Mr. Divakar Shetty A.S., faculty in the Department of

Mechanical Engineering accompanied the students.

A total of 15 students (grouped into 6 teams) of Department of Mechanical Engineering,

ASE, Bengaluru who qualified the zonal rounds attended the Automobile Championship

held at IIT Delhi. The event was organized by Robosapiens Technologies in collaboration

with Tryst 2015 (IIT Technical Fest). It was held from 27th February to 2nd March, 2015.

The event comprised of two quiz competitions and a final round, which was a hands on

assembly of an engine.
