When·the crew got in ·,nd' o~t' ()f the .tank several ;t;imes ·the resUlt· of 1>h9~f \l!l<l&thing, th<l tank heater and then thG cdld· caus __ ed a .. f~ost or thin film of ica to form over tlle·antirG interior of the tank. The tank heatGr, (water type) worked very well, ·but tho· erigine. had to be running above lBOO RPM's r, and \lnlG.SS tho tank was. moving this USGd up more· of ·the cr1t1oal gasoline supply. The poriscopos formed frost on tho outsid9. . -: There was no trouble e.llj:iorl~nccd w.1th tiring .the 90mm gun in thi~ cold weather.. .Tho machine guns: 1n the tnnks had to be hand lOaded and fired !or· tho first few. rounds until .the weapon .wa~~d enough to fire automatically. ·

No greasing was accompliShod during the extreme cold. The lightest weight oil available was uS<ld, this even me•mt adding 10 wt. oil to. s~me .of ~he tank main ang.1J!-eS.

The ice i'orced the t~<nk drlver.s to change tl}eir practice of using reverse when coming down a stoop hill. \'A'tcn this was tried. on ice the tracks would revolvo oountcr-olockwl,se .but ~e tank W<J>uld continue to mov.e forward. Therefore the dri vera had to use hand brakes and exorcise tho grGatest of caution on icc.

It was found that the M-26 ·tank tr~vcls better on icc than the ~4A3. It 1s believed this is due to the torqmatio · driva wh1cl1. givqa a mor" even flow of po.w<lr and the greatar wai ght.

6. a. As soon as the tanks A.re ashore on tho beaches covered by Teams #1 and #3, the teams will become the tank liaison team with the lst and 7th ROT's respec.tively,and will report .to their OP 1 s.

b • .As soon as the tanks are ashore on thG beaches covered by Teams U2 and #4, those teams will revert to their rospootive companies for such ciuty as assi.,ed.

c. Teams #5 and #6 are with Dl. v Res ervo Battalion and will be instrumental at a later date as to their disposition.
