!This week our Open Cricket team competed against Nemingha Public School in the Brian Taber Shield Knockout. Nemingha batted first and scored a high total of 185 runs. Kootingal’s best bowling figures were Zachary Parkes 2 for 22 and Harry Fields 1 for 17. With a high total set, Kootingal set out to beat it. Zachary Parkes led the chase with a knock of 42 not out, having to retire after 40 and not resume batting if needed. Alexander Cracknell was the second highest scorer, producing a commendable 18 runs. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. Our team represented their school and community with great pride. Well done team! Thank you to Mrs S impson fo r he r e f fo r t s and organisation, Mr Scott Cracknell who assisted with umpiring and to the many parents and grandparents who supported our team on the day.

!!Congratulations to Jessie Johnson who competed at the North West Swimming Carnival this week and performed another personal best. Jessie took another two seconds off her personal best time in the 50m freestyle. Jessie finished a commendable 9th overall in the 9 years. Well done Jessie! !Congratulations to Tyson Beard and Charlie Hartshorn of Mrs Blinman’s and Mrs Walsh’s class 5BW. Both boys achieved 100% on their recent spelling test and, like me, were very proud of their achievement. Well done boys! !!This week, students from Tamworth High School continued the teaching of a Fundamental Movement Skills program with our Kindergarten students. The students from Tamworth High School are completing this activity as a part of the course Physical Activity and Sports Studies (PASS). The students coach their younger counterparts in the 12 Fundamental Movement Skills. This week, the students focused on skipping, striking off a tee, catching and running. Each group of students designed the teaching activities. Our students relish in delight when they are working with the older children. It is another way in which Kootingal Public School and Tamworth High School are forging new and ongoing partnerships. !!!

!This week, I had a meeting with Mr Justin Ferris regarding the issue of the swallow bird population and possible methods of resolution for our COLA area. Mr Ferris spoke of a number of ways in which to protect our COLA area. Mr Ferris took a number of photographs to discuss with his colleagues. Our issues are the number of cross sections where the birds are roosting and the size of the COLA being rather large. This may become a very costly exercise. As previously stated, I will continue to communicate with our school community once I have more information. !Good luck to our students in years 5 and 6 who are competing in the Primary Debating and Public Speaking day at Nemingha Public School this week. This is the first time we have attended and are looking to strengthen in this area. All the best! !Kootingal Public School is again coordinating the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) tests. ICAS is an independent, skills-based assessment program that recognises and rewards student achievement. This program is an international program that has operated for the past 30 years. Students from years 2 to 6 are eligible to participate. Nomination forms are available from the front office area and on our website under Latest News and Features. I coordinate the tests and the dates for each test are located on the form and on our school website calendar. ! !!!!!

Our PBL lessons are focusing on the first of our five whole school expectations - keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself. Mrs Ward composed this week’s lesson focussing on what this expectation looks, feels and sounds like across the school in all contexts. !Next week, we will examine the second of the five whole school expectations – follow teacher instructions. As a reminder, the expectations are designed for consistency across the entire school. The new expectations are 1. Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself 2. Follow teacher instructions 3. Accept consequences 4. Report issues to teachers immediately 5. Show concern for others. !The signs pictured below represent these expectations and are present across our school. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
