Kookaburra’s Loud Laugh

He laughs and laughs and laughs.

Oo-oo-ah-Kookaburra sits in a tall gum tree.

Oo-oo-ah-ah - ah-ha-ha

He just can’t stop laughing

very loudly.

Oo-oo-ah-ah - ah

-ha- ha

was hopping past.

“What a big loud laugh.

What is so funny?”

asks Joey Grey, who-ah - ah-ha- ha


Kookaburra is laughing so hard that he can’t explain.

Oo-oo-ah-ah - ah

-ha- ha

“Kookaburra, why are you laughing?”

asks Sugar Glider, on her way up a tree.

-ah - ah-ha- ha


Kookaburra looks up at Sugar Glider,

but that makes him laugh even harder.

Oo-oo-ah-ah - ahOo-oo-ah

Oo-oo-ah-ah - ah-ha- haOo-oo-ah-ah - ah-ha- ha

Oo-oo-ah-ah - ah-ha- ha


ha- ha

ah- ah-Oo-oo-ah-

-ha - ha

“Kookaburra, what are you laughing at?”

asks Green Frog, who always wants to know

what is going on.

ha- ha

ah- ah--ha - ha

says Kookaburra.

“Look up!”

They all look up and see Pygmy-possum,

who is doing upside-down tricks.

“Look up!”


Pygmy-possum is busy swinging and showing off his “no

hands” trick, when…

Look out!Look out!Look out!

Kookaburra stops laughing.

Look out!Look out!Look out!

Oh no!Oh no!Oh no!

fallen out of the tree.

Oh no!Oh no!Oh no!

Pygmy-possum has


As Pygmy-possum passes Kookaburra,

he wraps his tail around Kookaburra’s beak.

Pygmy-possum is safe.

Phew!


He climbs up onto Kookaburra’s head. With his beak shut, Kookaburra

can’t laugh, only mumble.

Oo-mm-

Oo-oo-ah-ah-

mm-mm

Then Kookaburra laughs out loud again.

Oo-mm-

Oo-oo-ah-ah-

mm-mm

ah-ha-ha-ha


Glider hangs upside down too and all of the animals giggle.

Joey Grey shakes his ears.

Green Frog gives

a croaky chuckle.

Hee-hee haa-haa-haa

They all burst out laughing.

About Kookaburras

Kookaburras are the largest birds in the kingfisher family. Their beaks are long and strong and they have small, weak feet with joined outer toes. They eat small reptiles, insects, frogs and spiders. Some dive for fish and will eat small crabs and yabbies. Kookaburras live in a family and when chicks hatch all of the family members help to feed them. Kookaburras have a loud call that sounds like crazy laughter. They call loudly to tell other birds to stay away from their homes.
