Kindergarten students had a great sunny day for their field trip on Tuesday, 8th March 2016. We went to Taman Bunga Wiladatika, Cibubur as part of our learning about sharing the planet with small creatures. We saw many butterflies, dragonflies, frogs, bees, beetles, spiders, ants, mosquitoes and more. We observed where they live and how they move. Some were flying around colorful flowers; some were hiding in the trees. Some of them were swimming in a pond, while others lay inside a cave. We looked around the beautiful garden and enjoyed every spot there. This field trip helped the students and teachers to further understand how small creatture live.

We hope to make your dreams come true!

Connected with our 3rd UOI about shelters.

Central Idea ‘Local conditions can determine the structure of a shelter’.

For our 2nd Assembly performance, some of the Reception students became real estate representatives to give information about different types of shelters to the audience.

We also sang and danced together. It was a great way to explore and consolidate our understanding about shelter. We had so much fun!

You need a house, come to us!

Hopefully you all enjoyed our last performance as Reception students.

In learning about the environment, under the Transdisciplinary Theme: ‘Sharing the Planet’ and Central Idea:

‘People care for their environment in different ways’, Reception students turned into scientists to gain more knowledge

The biodegradable experiments!

Let's catch the air pollution!

The Reception Scientists are Back Again!

To find out the difference between biodegradable and non-biodegradable, Reception students tested different types of materials, such as fruits and vegetables, cans, plastic, tissue, and paper.

First we put the materials in water.

After a while, we tried to pick up and tear the material with our hands. If it wasn't easy, then material degraded easily. This was a speedy way to help us understand how materials break down (or not) under the soil.

The students were grossed out, but they enjoyed doing the experiment.

Reception students made air pollution detectors from paper plates, petroleum jelly, and string. Then they hung them around the school to research what the air quality at Global Jaya is like. Each day, someone would check the plates to see if the detectors had caught any pollutant particles from the air.

Hey, you! Yes, you air pollution! Get out of my school, now!

FIELD TRIP TO TMIIAs part of the unit, 'How the World Works', year 3 students and teachers visited Energy Museum and PPIPTEK in TMII

(Taman Mini Indonesia Indah) to explore how energy can be used to our advantage. The students were first guided through the PPIPTEK where they could explore a variety of energy sources using tactile senses. Additionally, students spent time inquiring about renewable energy, along with primary and secondary sources of energy using different models.

The Year 3 team invited expert guest speakers to enrich learning about energy.

Special thanks to the experts below:

1. Gamma (Year 10) explained about Hydro Power Energy,

2. Arif (Year 10) explained about Fiber Carbon Bicycle, and

3. Pak Yani (Global Jaya Staff) explained about electrical circuits.

In Unit 4, Sharing The Planet, the Year 4 students were developing and presenting more sustainable interactions with natural environments. The central idea of this unit is, “The need for finite resources is a factor in the relationship between humans and the natural environment." In this unit, the students were working in small groups to create an advocacy campaign with the purpose of explaining why their chosen issue is important and how the advocated action will make a difference. Using varieties of media to communicate such as websites, in-class presentations, i-movies and PowToon, the students were communicating their message about reducing conflict with the natural environment. They had different issues on saving water, land, deforestation, reducing waste and saving the natural resources. As one of the actions they went to different year levels to present their campaigns. The students also presented their advocacy campaigns in the assembly with the whole primary during the last assembly of Term 3 on March 11.

Enhancing Inquiry for Year 3

Hello, my name is Hanif and I am writing this article with my friend Rayhan. We are from the Food Supply Group. The Food Supply Group includes: Hanif, Rayhan, Jenny, Fattan and Tesa, all from 5B. We want to tell you about our action plan and the journey towards it. Here is a little information about our cause.

Malnutrition is a big problem around the world. Over 1,000,000 children aged below 5 years old die because they don’t get the nutrition they need to fight off diseases. We want to stop this problem and make our school a healthy environment for all the students, teachers and staff.

This is the story of our journey towards the action.

At the beginning of the unit we had to find an issue on the theme of Food Supply. We first wanted to make a hydroponic garden in an orphanage, but that idea never took off the ground because the idea involved too much money.

We also had an idea to do a campaign on healthy foods. Our group liked this idea more so we chose nutrition as our guide. We decided to start a salad bar in the school canteen. About a week after we figured out what we were going to do, we had to choose a target community. We chose our very own school.

The next step was that we had to find a way to raise money. Somewhere towards the end of January 2016 we decided to do a fundraiser at school. We raised: Rp.762,000 in one day! But we needed to give back the money that we borrowed to buy the materials for the fundraiser. So the money remaining was Rp.595,000.

When we proposed the idea to open a salad bar to the Primary Principal, Ibu Sarah came up with another idea because it would be challenging for us to manage the hygiene and school health code. Instead of opening our own salad bar we decided to propose that the canteen committee of our school make the lunch menu healthier by providing more fruits and vegetables and serving them in more interesting ways! With the help of our teacher Ibu Yulia, we arranged to meet the head of the canteen staff.

And so we began to prepare our presentation for the canteen committee to persuade them to make the lunch menu healthier. The meeting went like this…

As we entered the presentation room we noticed how big the room actually was! This was just one of the many reasons why we were so excited. After discussions and our presentation, the head of the Canteen Staff agreed to our proposal and said he would implement it ASAP.

That is the story of our

UOI 3 Sharing the Planet Unit.

This week, Year 6 was involved in two exciting events, a field trip and a trial exhibition. The field trip to IKEA was a part of our learning for our exhibition unit which looks at how to make innovations in products and services that have potential to improve people's quality of life. At IKEA, we had an interactive session with one of the managers, which related to IKEA's innovative products.

Furthe rmore, Year 6 also held a trial exhibition as part of the preparation for the 'real one'. We showed our prototypes and designs of our products and services and shared our issues, central ideas, lines of inquiries and student questions. We also invited our mentors, Year 5 and Year 7 students to come and see our trial exhibition so that we could receive valuable feedback to help us prepare for the main event on April 12 and 13. We are all very excited to have our exhibition!

The Primary Swimming Carnivals took place on Thursday 17th (Year 1 to 6) and Friday 18th (Kindergarten and Reception) March. All students showed great spirit, enthusiasm and good cooperation, especially during the cheering competition, they demonstrated

great creativity by combining original cheering lyrics and dance moves.

This year's event was divided into four sessions, Years 1 to 3, Years 4 to 6, Kindergarten and Reception. This allowed for maximum participation and safety throughout the carnivals.

The implementation of the swimming carnival events ran smoothly, although unfortunately at the end of the Year 4 to 6 session the rain came down.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the preparation and implementation of the Primary Swimming Carnival this year. Also a big thank you to all of the parents who came to cheer and support the students.
