Home Land presentation: Nonthaburi’s Koh Kred Hi! Everyone, I am Eve. Now the weather is called “the beginning of winter”. It’s time to go for relaxation. One fascinating place I suggest all of you is Koh Kred. Come on! I will show you. Koh Kred is the small island in Nonthaburi province where you will see the landmark that is the small tilted Mon’s style Jedi. It had become island by excavating the land in order to connect the river for shortcutting. Most people are Mon race whose occupation there occupation is making pottery and basketwork. Koh Kred is not far from Bangkok. If you start coming from the Victory Monument, you will travel via the 2nd phase express way or named “Si Rat” and go down to the Chaengwattana road head to Pak Kred intersection.

Then, go to Wat Sanam Nua where you will go aboard the boat to go across the Chao Praya River to the pier of Wat Poramaiyikawas of Koh Kred. I was going to Wat Sanam Nua pier in order to go on a board a boat to Wat Poramaiyikawas pier.

There are many shops selling some stuff for people who pass by to the pier of Wat Sanam Nua.

Wat Poramaiyikawas of Koh Kred is classified as the 2nd level of the Royal Temple, “Worabhihara” type. It had been built since 1721 and Mon people had renovated in 1774. There are Applied Thai style mural paintings at the wall within the temple. The Mon type Jedi behind the temple had been contained with the Buddha’s bone by king RAMA V.

The Mon style Jedi had been tilted by collapsing of the ground near the bank of the river. As a result, the base of the Jedi was subsided, so the whole Jedi had been being slanted. It is an amazing landmark until now.

I also paid homage to a Buddha image and I made a merit at Wat Poramaiyikawas.

“Ban ong”, the Mon village where we can find several types of pottery. There are many sizes of water container which people of Koh Kred are good at doing this beautifully and delicately.

Next, we went sight-seeing around the island first, we had to buy the ticket for tour, the ticket price is 60 Baht per person.

Besides, there are many products of plastic wickerwork and variety of crafts.

The famous food of Koh Kred is “Fried Nor Kala pancake”, this pancake is made of crushed fish and Nor Kala; the science name is Zingiberaceae. Bring the mixed ingredient into the pan on the boiling oil and deeply fry until they are well done. Nor Kala is the plant that generally grows in the island. You can buy them for cooking at home.

Next touring route was “Klong Kanom Wan”, the home of sweets and goodies. There are many houses located near the bank of the canal. People here, do the homemade variety of sweets as you have seen in the pictures I took. There, is the hub of the delicious Thai fashioned goodies. Some seller showed how to do this. You can buy some goodies for sharing to your relatives. The price is 15 Bath per pack.

On the way back, the wind blew gently, the weather was slight cool, we had seen the beautiful landscape at the both side of the river. The large size of Buddha image of Wat Bang Chak opposite Koh Kred is outstanding view. Finally, I fully hope that this video will be useful to all of you and believe you will go to visit my home land someday, and I am sure that you will be happy then. Thanks for watching!
