CULPEPER COLUMBIAN A publication of John J. Cempre’ Council 6328 PO Box 112, Culpeper, Virginia 22701 June 2017 Vol. 1, No. 23: Brothers, It’s summer season again! Grilling, corn hole (or horseshoes for the older guys) water sports and mosquitoes. The recent purchase of a large, versatile grill will allow us ample opportunity for some serious fundraising and council enjoyment. We broke it in at the Epiphany 20 Year Celebration. It was a major success as burgers, dogs, brats and some extremely tasty chicken was grilled to perfection. I want to thank the brothers who helped with the event: Steve Zajkowski, Bruce Winning, RC Garcia, Neil Dodson, Phil Ferlazzo, Dennis Mercier (thanks Dennis!), Mike Buckley, Dave Watson, John Shaughnessy, Roger Depue, Michael Watts, Tony Windland, Jim Elias, Louis Scalzo and Tom Diibon. An excellent turnout! This will help to show that we are part of the Epiphany spirit and will go far in our relationship with the school and its new principal. A second thank you is needed for all who attended the mass for Brother Joe Kratchovil and Freda. Fr. Kevin celebrated mass with about 25 Brothers in attendance. I could tell from Joe and Freda’s smiles that they greatly appreciated the loving environment brought by the friends who took time from their day to be present. Let’s see if we can make this an occasional activity. The officers for the next fraternal year have been elected. Once the installation is completed an officers meeting will follow. I am looking forward to an active year and with infusion from our younger souls, together we can accomplish much. But it does take a small commitment for this to happen. For those new to our council, 24 hours a year, this is not much to ask. Be proud of being a Knight! Together we can show Culpeper what Charity, Unity and Fraternity mean. The knights perform many charitable acts and personally, the feeling I get when helping others is enormous. To know that you helped someone less fortunate is the spark that drives us on. With your eyes fixed on Jesus, the motivation should be welling up inside of you. Put it to work with the Knights. Let’s build our council and grow with the Holy Spirit for the purpose that Father McGivney sought. Vivat Jesus! Steve Johnston Message from Grand Knight
