The East Tennessee Equality Council (ETEC) is proud to welcome you to another year of Knoxville

PrideFest activities. Each year our events increase in number and size and this year is no different.

But, no matter how big it gets, it won’t be the same without YOU! With over 20 events, just in

the month of June, there is something for everyone. Check out our calendar in the book, or

online, grab a friend and come. Live. Love. Be. PROUD! with Knoxville PrideFest 2012!

This year we have a lot of firsts for Knoxville PrideFest. Our City Mayor, Madeline Rogero, will not

only be the first Mayor to speak at our festival, but she’ll also be the first to ride in our Pride

Parade and the first to write a welcome letter for our Pride Book. (Check it out 2 pgs from here!)

This should come as no surprise as she just finished leading the charge to expand the City’s own

Non-Discrimination Ordinance to include our community, among others. In a first for our

Country, the President of the United States, Barack Obama, just announced his full support for

Marriage Equality. What a bold move and one that should help you to Live. Love. Be. PROUD!

and inspire you to get more politically involved and help re-elect equal-minded officials like them.

But no matter what’s going on around us, Pride is what YOU make of it. You can sit at home,

alone, maybe even in your closet (real or imagined) and feel like the whole world is against you

OR you can come OUT (figuratively or literally), join some friends, or make some new ones, and

Live. Love. Be. PROUD!

One thing we’re proud to continue for 2012 is the inclusion of a wide variety of venues for our

events. We welcome Carleo Entertainment as a host of Eat OUT w/ Pride at Ebi, the Next to

Nothing Show at Club NV and our VIP Party at Carleo’s Nightclub. Way to step up, now let’s

come OUT and thank them! However, if we have 20 events in June and no one in Knoxville, but

for the LGBT community, comes out to enjoy them, or knows that we exist, what do we really

have to be PROUD about? So, come out, come out, wherever (and whoever) you are and Live.

Love. Be. PROUD! ALL over Knoxville with Knoxville PrideFest this June.

Whether you’re joining us for an Eat OUT with Pride at one of 20 local restaurants, heading to The

Emporium for Art OUT in the City, enjoying a Night OUT @ The Smokies on our Private Patio (w/

our own Karen E. Reynolds singing the National Anthem), coming to our newest venue, Club NV,

for the always HOT Next to Nothing Fashion Show & Auction or even marching down Gay St. in

the Pride Parade, if you’re OUT, you can be Proud and that’s what Live. Love. Be. PROUD! is all

about!

And saving the best for last, we’ve signed our biggest name EVER for your Knoxville PrideFest

Festival and can’t wait to Live. Love. Be. PROUD! with the thousands of people that will show up

to see our headliner, Taylor Dayne, on Mkt Square. (Check out the VIP info later in the book to

join the private meet ‘n’ greet w/ her immediately following her performance!)

No matter HOW you celebrate, or who you are, whether you make all of the events, or just a few, come OUT and Live. Love. Be. PROUD! with Knoxville PrideFest the whole month of June! It truly won’t be the same without YOU!

See you there,

Todd Cramer – PresidentEast TN Equality Council

June 23, 2012

I am thrilled to join each of you for Knoxville PrideFest 2012!

This celebration of music, food, entertainment and art promotes the equality and

inclusion of all people. The June calendar is full of activities to encourage local businesses and vendors to reach out to members of the

LGBT community, and members of the community are

always ready to offer their support. It’s a win-win

opportunity for everyone.

During my Inaugural address, I remarked that a

great city opens its arms and gathers into its midst the diversity of its people - people of all races and colors,

people of all abilities, gay and straight, people of all

faiths, from the youngest to the oldest, from the richest to the poorest. I built my campaign on diversity and

inclusiveness, and that is how I have governed since

taking office six months ago.

Because all of us are Knoxville, and Knoxville

will only become greater if all of us are involved and

respected, I thought it was important to implement an ordinance to that effect. That’s why it was a key

moment when our City Council approved to add four

categories to the City of Knoxville’s non-discrimination employment policies: disability, ethnic origin, gender identity and sexual orientation. The non-discrimination policies

apply to all City employees and candidates for employment.

I’m glad to be a part of this small but significant change and hope that with each PrideFest our community embraces its most important resource: our people.

Thanks for the opportunity to serve as your Mayor, and please enjoy all of the activities and the PrideFest Festival.

Sincerely,

Madeline Rogero

WETAKE

IN OURPUB!

“On the Corner of Jackson and South Central, In the Old City” Our mission is to celebrate and preserve our regions' musical heritage in the only way it can be done: playing the tunes and passing them on from musician to musician. East Tennessee has rich roots in Irish and Scottish music, and they merged here with other influences and evolved into bluegrass and old time Appalachian genres. At Boyd’s

Jig and Reel we celebrate our musical past, our present, and future. Come on down, bring your fiddle or instrument of your choice and join in. If you forget your instrument, there are plenty tuned up and ready to play from pianos to a double bass to a harp, and of course plenty of mandolins and fiddles. Don’t play? We have beer and food for the spectators!
