We are excited to have three Veterans who will attend the Honor Flight to Washington
on May 5th. The cost of their airfare is covered but their escorts are not.
We are asking for donations to cover their airfare costs and to make a special day in
honoring those who gave their service to their country. The honor Flight takes months
of planning and each flight usually takes around 72 Veterans and their escorts to Wash-
ington, D.C. for the day. Flights leave Peoria and return in the evening; a long day for all
involved but one to be remembered always. Donations may be made at the Receptionist’s
desk, and if we receive above and beyond the required amount, we will put the remaining
balance towards the next Honor Flight. For more information on this wonderful pro-
gram, go to: www.greaterpeoriahonorflight.org
Please stop by our gift shop and meet volunteer Georgene Erickson! She has been a tre-
mendous help by organizing our card selection and making room for lots of new items.
Thank you Georgene!
Thank you to Rosemary Cowman, who donated many
beautiful handmade cards for the gift shop. Come by
and check them out while supplies last–
they are selling like hotcakes!

Information for Health Alliance Connect and Molina Members: MMAI (Medicare Medicaid Alignment Initiative) is an initiative of both Medicare and Medicaid to place beneficiaries who are eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare Parts A & B (“dual eligibles”) into Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) that will be responsible for all services covered by both Medicare and Medicaid. This initiative is designed to provide better care coordination and improve health outcomes for individuals that have been left on their own to navigate two separate health care systems. Most residents’ new MMAI started on December 1st, 2014. The MMAI will be billed for Room/Board, Therapy, and Prescriptions. The Applied Income amount or “Patient Liability” will still be calculated by Medicaid and will be paid to the nursing home as it is currently. You will receive a statement for the Patient Liabil-ity but the MMAI (Health Alliance Connect or Molina) will be billed for every-thing else. You haven't lost any of your Medicaid benefits. What you have now is Medicaid AND Medicare, working together. Now all your care goes through one place, like a headquarters.
THIS IS THEIR ONLY INSURANCE! Medicare Part D or Medicare Supplemental or Secondary is no
longer necessary! If you are paying a separate premium for insurance other than Medicare, please contact them to terminate the plan on the date that Health Alliance Connect or Molina became effective. This ONLY applies to residents who have MMAI Health Alliance Connect or Molina
If you have any questions about MMAI or dropping secondary insurance, Please feel free to contact me in the business office at 309.289.2338.
Thank you, Jori Shull (Business Office Manager)

Happy St. Pat’s! Luck O’ the Irish!
One of the great things about working at Knox County
Nursing Home has to be the appreciative comments that
families and residents often give about our caring staff.
So many compliments are hard to count sometimes, and our employees
deserve to be recognized for jobs well done. With this in mind, Knox County
Nursing Home will be setting up an “Employee of the Month” program
starting in April.
Submissions of candidates will be open to residents, their families, friends
and visitors. Please submit the employee’s name and department, with some
brief comments about why you believe he or she deserves this award. The
employee chosen will receive a reserved parking space for the month, his or
her photo and biography on display, as well a “Thank You” gift basket.
Submission cards will be kept at the front
desk; please ask the receptionist for one the
next time you stop by if you are interested.
So….
If there has been a particular staff member
who you’ve felt has been doing a great job,
always goes the extra mile, or simply puts a
smile on your face, this is a great opportuni-
ty to let others know how she or he makes a
difference each day!

Knox County Nursing Home. Your gift can be in the form of a brick memorial along the entrance
walk of the Home, an addition to the landscape of the Prairie Trails, or a gift of money with a desig-

Just a reminder to family and friends….
The belongings of our residents are important to the staff at KCNH. To help us keep your
loved one’s possessions and gifts safe and accounted for, here are a few tips when you bring in new
items:
*Clothing-We recommend that all articles of clothing be marked with resident’s
names and room numbers, regardless of whether or not the facility or the
family is responsible for doing laundry. This way, if a piece of clothing
accidentally makes its way to the basement, we will know who it belongs
to. Clothing can be brought in and left at the front desk for labeling
on any day between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. We also recommend that hats, scarves,
gloves, shoes, belts, and socks be marked as well.
*Toiletries and personal care items: These items are always kept in residents’
rooms, though marking each product with the last name of the resident in
bold black marker ensures that if something is misplaced it gets back to
where it came from. Housekeeping and nursing staff on all wings are
available to help families mark products when they visit.
*Glasses, Hearing Devices, or Dentures: When bringing in these items, please
alert a Social Services staff member. This way, these items may be marked
with the resident name properly, as well as be recorded in the resident’s inventory
in his or her chart. Families visiting on weekends may also speak to the House Man-
ager for assistance.
*Electronics, Furniture, etc.-If you need assistance with unloading or
connecting devices, please ask to speak to a Maintenance staff
member. Our staff will not only be able to help you arrange a resident’s
room to accommodate larger pieces brought in, but they will also be able
to inspect any new furniture or electronics for safety and code compliance.
We hope that these guidelines will make missing items in your loved one’s home situations
that are easily resolved, and as always we are willing to work with families, staff, and residents on
ways to improve our policies. For questions or suggestions, feel free to contact Kevin Godsil or
myself.

As you may or may not know, Knox County Nursing Home has a team that participates in
The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s every year. The 2015 Walk to End
Alzheimer’s is on September 26 this year. That is a little over six months away. That
means fundraising for our team’s efforts is beginning to kick into swing. There are a lot of
things in the works for this year: Bagging groceries for tips, a Raffle, Pancake Breakfast,
and a few more. As events or fundraisers are solidified, announcements will be made and
information will be posted. Help from families, friends, and staff is needed to make fund-
raising efforts successful. If you would like to volunteer or help out, I can find something
for you to do! Just Contact Julie Jones on Wing2.
A few facts and figures about Alzheimer’s disease:
Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. Among Americans
over the age of 65 it is the 5th leading cause of death. Alzheimer’s kills more peo-
ple each year than Diabetes!
An estimated 5.2 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease.
By mid-century, fueled in large part by the baby boom generation, the number of peo-
ple living with AD in the United States is projected to grow by about 9 million.
Today, someone in the USA develops
Alzheimer’s disease every 67 seconds.
In 2013, more than 15 million family members
and other unpaid caregivers provided an es-
timated 17.7 billion hours of care to people
with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, a
contribution valued at more than $220 bil-
lion
In her 60s, a woman's estimated lifetime risk for
developing Alzheimer's is 1 in 6. For breast cancer it
