    Thismethodofweavingwithtwoneedlesisusedfor

    thetoesofsocksandflatseams.Toweavetheedges

    togetherandformanunbrokenlineofstockinette

    stitch,divideallstitchesevenlyontotwoknitting

    needlesonebehindtheother.Threadyarninto

    tapestryneedle.Holdneedleswithwrongsides

    togetherandworkfromrighttoleftasfollows:

    Step 1: Inserttapestryneedle

    intofirststitchonfrontneedle

    astopurl.Drawyarnthrough

    stitch,leavingstitchonknitting

    needle.

    Step 2: Inserttapestryneedle

    intothefirststitchontheback

    needleastopurl.Drawyarn

    Thistypeofseammaybeusedforverticalseams

    (likesideseams).Itisworkedwiththerightsides

    ofthepiecesfacingyou,makingiteasiertomatch

    stitchesforstripepatterns.Itisworkedbetweenthe

    firstandsecondstitchattheedgeofthepieceand

    worksbestwhenthefirststitchisaselvagestitch.

    Toworkthisseam,threadatapestryneedlewithmatchingyarn.Inserttheneedleintoonecorner

    ofworkfrombacktofront,justabovethecast-on

    stitch,leavinga3-inchtail.Taketheneedletoedge

    ofotherpieceandbringitfrombacktofrontatthe

    cornerofthispiece.

    Returntothefirstpieceandinserttheneedlefrom

    therighttowrongsidewherethethreadcomes

    outofthepiece.Sliptheneedleupwardundertwo

    horizontalthreadsandbringtheneedlethroughto

    therightside.

    Crosstotheothersideandrepeatthesameprocess,

    goingdownwhereyoucameout,undertwothreads

    andup.

    Continueworkingbackandforthonthetwopieces

    inthesamemannerfor

    aboutaninch,andthen

    gentlypullonthethread,

    pullingthetwopieces

    iscoveredandcenterholeisfilled(threadmore

    lengthofyarnasneeded).

    Withsharpscissors,cutyarnbetweenthetwocircles

    allaroundthecircumference(Figure2).

    Usingtwo12-inchstrandsofyarn,slipyarnbetween

    circlesandoverlapyarnendstwoorthreetimes(Figure3)topreventknotfromslipping,pulltightly

    andtieintoafirmknot.

    Toformthecord,holdthenumberofstrandsofyarnindicatedtogethermatchingtheends.Attachone

    endtoadoorknoborhook.Twisttheotherendin

    onedirectionuntilthelengthistightlytwistedand

    beginstokink.

    Sometimesthelengthsarefoldedinhalfbefore

    twisting.Inthiscasethelooseendsareattached

    tothedoorknobandapencilisslippedintothe

    foldedloopattheotherend.Turnthepencilto

    twistthecord.

    Oncethecordistightlytwisted,continuetohold

    thetwistedendwhilefoldingtheyarninthemiddle.

    Removetheendfromtheknoborhook,andmatch

    thetwoends;thenreleasethemallowingthecord

    totwistonitself.

    Trimthecordendstothedesiredlengthand

    knoteachend.Ifthecordiswoventhrougheyelets,

    itmaybenecessarytotieasecondknotintheendtopreventitfromslippingbackthroughthe

    eyeletopening.

    Knitting With Beads

    Threadingbeadsontoyarnisthemostcommonway

    toknitwithbeads.

    Step 1: Beforebeginningtoknit,threadthebeads

    ontoyourskeinofyarnusingabeadthreader.Asyouwork,unwindasmallquantityofyarn,eachtime

    slidingthebeadstowardstheballuntilneeded.

    Passtheyarnthroughtheloopofthethreaderand

    pickupbeadswiththeworkingendoftheneedle

    (Figure4).

    Step 2:Slidethebeadsovertheloopandonto

    theyarn(Figure5).
