Reverend Fathers, Brother Knights Ladies and Gentlemen, Imagine being part of an organization that fills your heart and your mind with the joy of giving to others and the feeling that comes with making a difference. Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are committed to making their community a better place, while supporting their Church. Being a Knight is more than camaraderie; it is being involved with your community; it is supporting your local Catholic Church, while enhancing your own faith; it is about protecting and enhancing your family life. It is no accident that the Holy Father refers to us as “the Strong right arm of the Catholic Church”. We are an organization of dedicated individuals—1.74 million members strong, and growing. An organization that, since 1882, has embodied the selflessness of man as it has helped overcome the problems of the world. Poverty. Ignorance. Apathy. Things that imperil not only a single individual, but the whole of humanity. We are men of faith, comprising over 13,000 Knights of Columbus councils at home and overseas. Guided not only by our belief in God and the Catholic Church, but by our belief in each other, and in ourselves. We are the Knights of Columbus. Believing that a man is defined by his actions as a follower of God, and as a leader in his community. Believing that a man is more than simply a man, when he bears the title of “Knight.” We are now recognized in this country as a voice of reason and truth in a world where abortion, same sex unions and euthanasia are becoming commonplace. We stand shoulder to shoulder with our bishops and priests solidly in defense of the teachings of the Catholic Church, the same teachings that helped us survive the last 2000 years. Within the Order itself, there are four “Degrees” of Knighthood, each one meant to exemplify one of the four principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. To become a full Knight, each member is encouraged to attain the Third Degree level. After which, he can go on to the Fourth Degree, the one that embodies patriotism and is the most visible of all the Degrees. It is through their participation in these areas that Knights receive their greatest, and often most personal, rewards. So what are the benefits to you and your family? Apart from the social aspect of doing activities with your family and friends, the Order offers real, tangible benefits for those who chose to participate. The Knights of Columbus, founded to protect the widows and orphans in 1882, currently is one of the top insurance companies in North America. While insurance in our Order is voluntary, we have a wide range of products designed to protect you and your family. When our organization began, in order to help each other, our members "passed the hat" to assist families of deceased members. Soon, however, this became impossible, as the number of our members grew. Out of this simple process, we've evolved into a modern, dynamic insurance organization, and offer a wide variety of products to suit virtually everyone's needs. - Permanent Plans - Policy lasts as long as you live, premium stays the same. - Term Plans - Policy ends at end of specified term: renewable or convertible. - Annuities - Provides an income that is guaranteed for life. - Long Term Care - Provides funds for long-term, out-of-hospital care.
