Good evening and welcome to Redding Way for our first home league game of the

season against Redhill.

A warm welcome to Perry Gough, his players and coaching staff, committee members

and supporters of Redhill for their first encounter against Knaphill.

Saturday's game was a bit a flat note for us and supporters alike against Highworth Town

Although they were FA Vase semi finalists last season I still felt with the squad that we

have assembled we are a match for any team on our day.

But to concede within the first twenty seconds was very disappointing although I still felt

confident that we would get could back into it. It was good to see Mark Watkins score his

first of hopefully many goals for the club and I think we did get on top of the game for a

good half hour. But some times you take risks to win a game, sometimes they work and

sometimes they don't, Saturday sadly they didn't.

We move on to our league game tonight against Redhill and they have not had the best

starts to the season but it is a long campaign and I remember when we first came into

this league it took us at least eight or nine games until we adjusted to it.

I wish them all the best for the coming season apart for when we cross paths!...

Enjoy the game and thank you for your support/

THE away end...

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CLUB Redhill FC was formed in 1894 and two years later, the club moved into its stadium of 88 years; Memorial Park in the centre of the town. Redhill became members of the Athenian League in 1923 and remained there until the leagues demise in 1984. Success came early, being runners up and champions in their first two seasons in the league. In 1925/26, the club enjoyed possibly its best season; reaching two cup finals and reaching the semi-final of the FA Amateur Cup, losing to Northern Nomads at Arsenals Highbury stadium in front of 17,000 people. In 1949, Redhill lost to Arsenal 1- 0 in a friendly that was offered by the Gunners after Redhill provided them with two of their best players at the time; Colin Grimshaw and Bernard Sexton. In 1957/ 58, the Redhill reached the FA Cup 1st Round Proper for their only time. After beating Tooting & Mitcham in the previous round, the Reds travelled to Norwich City, only to lose 6-1, but many write ups at the time gave Redhill plenty of credit for their performance. After winning the final Athenian League title in 1984, the Reds were moved into their current home; Kiln Brow. Lack of facilities meant the club could not take their rightful place in the higher league and instead found some success in the London Spartan League, before moving onto the Sussex County League in 1988. After many brutal years of ups and downs, following hard work by many club officials and supporters keeping the club alive, Redhill eventually found themselves as runners-up of the Sussex League Division One in 2013, winning promotion to the Isthmian League Division One (South). For the 2015-16 season, Redhill take their place in the Combined Counties Football League for the first time in their 121 year history.

IN AND AROUND THE GROUND The latest news from in and around the ground

Good evening everyone and a welcome to the players, officials and supporters from Redhill FC, also to the match officials. On Saturday we entertained Highworth Town of the Hellenic League in the Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round. Things did not go our way on the day and our journey came to an abrupt end following a 3-1 defeat. Highworth got off to the perfect start, scoring inside the opening minute and although we equalised through Mark Watkins, his first for the club, they took their chances. The previous Tuesday saw us travel to Horley Town. Trailing 2-0 at half time we took con-trol in the second half and Jimmy Norman pulled a goal back but despite creating decent opportunities to equalise Horley held on. The Reserves kicked off their league campaign last Saturday with a trip to Greenwich Borough and came away with a share of the spoils following a 1-1 draw, Darryl Jackson was our goal scorer. Next up for the Reserves is a home fixture this Saturday, 22nd August against East Grinstead Town in the Suburban League South Division, kick off is 3.00pm. The Youth team have to wait until September 1st for the start of their league campaign when they will entertain Tadley Calleva here at Redding Way in the Allied Counties Youth League. Come along and support the young Knappers. It was good to see a number of our sponsors and guests here on Saturday for the FA Cup match and our mascots from Byfleet Village U7’s. Even though the result didn’t go our way I am assured they all enjoyed the experience. Away from team affairs and a special mention to all that have been involved over the summer in carrying out ground improvements inside and outside and once again Redding Way is looking superb. Major drainage works was carried out on the Redding Way end of the pitch and although its not looking as good as it can be at the start of the season hopefully the chances of the matches being called off during the wet months of the season will be limited. New installations include aluminium stadium goalposts and we have added additional speakers to public address sytem.

Inside we have now completed the new kit and treatment room, pictured left and in the clubroom new furniture is now in place. Continuing outside the stand only stands have now been painted in the club colours and a new players tunnel has been added. A big thank you to all the committee members and volunteers who have helped in the summer. We are pleased to announce that we have a new charity partner in Woking Hospice. We will also be competing for the Woking Hospice Charity Cup when we play local rivals Westfield in our two league games this season. Special thank you to Wendy Denty for agreeing to the arrangement. Lastly a big thank you to all out sponsors and advertisers this season, especially shirt sponsors PRS Distribution, Bolam Premier Sports and Power Point Electrics, without your support life will be a lot harder running a football club!

PLENTY IN RESERVE with simon martin

Suburban League South Division Saturday 15th August 2015 Greenwich Borough 1 Knaphill 1 We travelled to Thamesmead on Saturday in our first league fixture of the 2015/16 season away to Greenwich Borough FC. It's always nice to start the season off with a nice little trek around the M25 on a Saturday but we set off full of optimism after a great pre season. On arrival we discovered the lush green grass of a 3G pitch awaited our fixture which luckily for us suits our style of play. The game started well for Knaphill as we dominated from the off without having any real clear cut chances. Great work rate from the midfield three and Jacob meant that we had the opposition pinned back in there half for most of the first half. Greenwich’s only real threat was with they’re pace on the counter attack and we were unlucky to go in at half time all square. Greenwich upped there game at the start of the 2nd half and started to pass the ball more through the middle of the pitch. They took the lead midway through the half with a goal that could have fallen for either team but was taken by Greenwich. Knaphill came back though looking for an equaliser and found it 10mins later with a great free kick from Darryl Jackson. Both teams went looking for the winner but it ended up finishing 1-1 in what was probably a fair result with two evenly matched teams. Good performances from James Harris, Josh King and Jack Tucker at the back as well as Matt Kellet Smith and Jacob McDonald helped us come away with a point against a team that looks like they could do well at home in the league this year. Our next fixture is at home to East Grinstead in the league this Saturday. Come and watch !!! Up the Knappers !!! Simon Martin, Reserve Team Manager

IN YOUTH WE TRUST THROUGH THE RANKS

I would like to thank Chairman, David Freeman for inviting myself and Steve Hobbs to

take on the roles of Manager and Assistant Manager starting this season. All the staff at

the club and the committee have made us feel very welcome and have been supportive

and positive about our plans for the Youth team. I would also like to mention our coach

for this season, Lee Mason, who shows so much enthusiasm for coaching younger

players and shares our football ideals.

Our aim is to help the Youth players develop and to achieve squad status with the

reserve team and then hopefully they will kick on upwards to the first team squad.

However, we are committed to achieving as much success as possible either in the

League or in a Cup competition.

The squad this season is 21 players strong and we are delighted that 15 of the players

come from the Borough of Woking. Our focus on nurturing local talent is important to us

and we hope that this will help to foster a strong bond between the club and the players

for the future.

The Youths season kicks off on September 1st at home to Tadley Calleva, I hope to see

you here at Redding Way supporting the Youth team.

Best wishes

Barry Losty U18’s Manager
