KN Rail Flex is designed for customers needing irregular

transportation of cargo – in single or grouped wagons.

Our operations include routes from Northern, Central and

Southern Europe to the Balkan and CIS countries.

wagon transport over the shunting yards of former state

railway operators.

KN Rail Prolog further improves operational effectiveness

by including sophisticated rail-connected warehouses

known as railports, throughout Europe. Railports are able

to consolidate shipments, reducing costs and boosting

environmental efficiency.

Kuehne + Nagel has access to more than 30 railports across

the continent, allowing us to offer fast, economical block

train services.

The focal point of the network is our warehouse facilities

in Thessaloniki, Greece, which incorporate a rail-connected

5,000 m2 cross-docking compound. From here consolidation

of wagons and other trans-shipment operations take place.

This network combines single-wagon traffic from a range

of customers in hubs, and then consolidates them to form

regular block trains ready to be sent to the Balkans. We are

currently operating up to 4,000 trains per year.

Unlike conventional rail, intermodal rail transportation

is the combination of rail with pre-carriage and onward

carriage using other means of transport. Moving only the

container avoids contact with the actual cargo. This

reduces the risk of damage, and makes it easier for us to

offer a complete door-to-door service for our customers.
