Jazz Night 7-8pm MS Gym KMS Band Students Participate in Solo / Ensemble Music Contest On Thursday, February 28, 2019, 42 Keokuk Middle School Band students participated in solo/ensemble music contest in Ft. Madison, Iowa. Events were given a rating of I for a superiorperformance, II for an excellentperformance and special recognitions of Outstanding Performance.KMS had 25 events total on that evening. The Keokuk students were well prepared and represented KMS with dedication, pride, and musicianship. Band directors and teachers who worked with these students are Krystal Bottorff, Josh Hetzel, Woodie Brassil, Craig Bullis, Robert Soule, and Karen Weirather. Accompanists were Barb Tuttle, Krystal Bottorff, Sarah Vigen. Of the 25 events, three were recognized as outstanding performancesalong with the rating of a I+. Five events received the rating of a I+. Those events received stars on the wall of fame.Six events received Is; six events received I-s; and eight events received either a II+, II or II- rating. Events receiving outstanding performanceawards were the mixed quintet of Justus Berquam, Louis Dal, Patton Delperdang, Maryssa Derr, and Kyla Muston; trumpet solo of Louis Dal; and the flute solo of Aria Stephenson. All outstandingevents also each received a I+ rating. Other events that received a I+ rating were the trombone duet of Lily Gobart and Wren Richardson; and the snare drum duet of Anna Hinton and Chloe Ruhl. Solo events receiving the rating of I were: Trevor Long, trumpet; Trevor Long, French Horn; and Morgan Salyers, tenor sax. Group events receiving a rating of I were: bells/clarinet duet of Sophia Rule and Olivia Rule; mixed trio of Rachel Hausch, Ragen Hausch, and Marina Logsdon; and the sax duet of Maggie Haage and Marina Logsdon. Solo events receiving a I- were: Carryna Rivers, flute; and Lilly Thornburg, tuba. Group events receiving a rating of I- were: mixed quartet of Emma Eisenbach, Malachi Harris, Bryce Palmisano, and Aria Stephenson; snare duet of Lizzie Salyers and Anthony Stice; flute and clarinet duet of Carryna Rivers and Eden Schilling; and the trombone quartet of Reese Campbell, Aydan OConnor, William Potratz, and Eric Putnam. Events receiving a II+ were: flute solo of Skylar Stonehouse; mixed duet of Remi Squier and Lilly Thornburg; and the mixed trio of Matthew Bybee, Reese Hoffman, and Aidan Koehler. Events receiving a II were: tuba solo of Ashton Weilandich; mixed trio of Louis Dal, Ruger Grelk, and Aydan OConnor; and the flute trio of Kyla Muston, Jiya Patel, and Katie Skelton. KMS Band Students Participate in Solo / Ensemble Music Contest

On Thursday, February 28, 2019, 42 Keokuk Middle School Band students participated in solo/ensemble music contest in Ft. Madison, Iowa. Keokuk Middle School Student Patton Delperdang Was Announced as 2019 Regional Scholastic Art & Writing Award Recipient for the Silver Key by the University of Iowa’s Belin-Blank Center for her Original Works. The Belin-Blank Center at the University of Iowa has announced the regional award recipients of the 2019 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Presented by the nonprofit organization, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the Scholastic Art & W riting Awards are the country's longest-running and most prestigious scholarship and recognition program for creative students in grades 7–12. This program year, more than 330,000 works of art and writing were submitted to 100 Affiliate regions across the country. As one of the largest national affiliates, the Belin-Blank Center adjudicated over 6,000 pieces of art and writing from the Iowa and Midwest Regions. Creative teens from Iowa and the Midwest received regional honors, including Gold Keys, Silver Keys, Honorable Mentions, and/or AmericanVisions & Voices nominations. Patton was nominated by her art teacher Ms. Heather Luft.

Miss Arie Schiller was awarded the "Inspiring Excellence in Teaching

Science Award," on Saturday, March 16th at the Eastern Iowa Science and Engineering Fair held in Cedar Rapids. Schiller was selected by the Board of Directors as a result of her personal interest and consistent dedication to

inspire young students in the Keokuk School District.
