IntroductionKlein makes a variety of standard and

special-purpose wrenches for profes-sional use. They are designed and builtto feel right and work right...and meetthe highest quality standards.

All Klein wrenches are drop-forgedfrom the finest steel alloy, hardened, andthoroughly tempered for great strength, light weight, and long wear.

Wrench openings are smooth and ac-curately broached for close, correct fitto prevent slipping and to provide a sure, positive pull every time. Wrench endsare of the right thickness for the mostefficient performance of each specificjob.

Handles are rounded and shaped forcomfortable use. Each handle is of thecorrect length for maximum leverage andfor proper balance in your hand. SomeKlein adjustable wrenches are availablewith plastic-dipped handles for bettergripping and comfort. •

The right wrench for every job.Whatever the job, only a wrench of the

proper type and size will give you the kindof results you want. That one right wrenchwill do the job correctly, with less effortand more safety than any other wrench.

This is a basic and obvious fact. We stateit here only to reinforce the professionalapproach to tool selection. The man whomakes his living with tools never needs toimprovise, because the right tool is alwaysavailable to him.

Using wrenches.Stop! take a minute to read these few

simple rules. We know you're not likely tofind anything new here, but you might findsomething you've almost forgotten.1. Never use a wrench to do another

tool's job. You won't do the job as welland you might damage or even breakthe wrench. And using a wrench as ahammer or a pry bar or anything elsecan be dangerous. Take the time to getthe right tool.

2. Never use a wrench opening too largefor the fastener. Using a wrench open-ing too large for the nut or bolt canspread the jaws of an open-end wrenchand batter the points of a box or socketwrench. A too-large wrench opening canalso spoil the points of the nut or bolthead. And when selecting a wrench forproper fit, take special care to use inchwrenches on inch fasteners and metricwrenches on metric fasteners.

3. Never push a wrench beyond Its ca-pacity. Quality wrenches are designedand sized to keep leverage and in-tended load (torque) in safe balance. The use of an artificial extension on thehandle of any wrench can break thewrench, spoil the work, and hurt the user.Instead, get a larger wrench or a dif-ferent kind of wrench to do the job. Themost efficient wrench is a box or sockettype. To free a "frozen" nut or bolt, usea striking-face box wrench or a heavy-duty box or socket wrench; never usean open-end wrench. And apply pene-trating oil beforehand.

4. Never expose a wrench to excessiveheat. Direct flame can draw the temperfrom the metal, weakening and possiblywarping it, making it unsafe to use.

5. Never push on a wrench unless ab-solutely necessary. There may be sit-uations in which you can only push awrench handle to loosen or tighten a nutor bolt. But you should always pull on awrench to exert even pressure and avoidinjury if the wrench slips or the nut breaksloose unexpectedly. If you must pushthe wrench, do it with the palm of yourhand and hold your palm open.

6. Never cock or tilt an open-end wrench.Always be sure the nut or bolt head isfully seated in the jaw opening. A boxor socket wrench should be used onhard-to-reach fasteners. Adjustablewrenches should be tightly adjusted tothe work and pulled so that the force isapplied to the fixed jaw.

7. Never depend on plastic-dipped han-dles to insulate you from electricity.Plastic-dipped handles are for comfortand a firmer grip. They are not intendedfor protection against electric shock.

Repair or replace?Attempts to repair box, open-end, or

combination wrenches are not recom-mended. Any of these wrenches with benthandles, spread, nicked or battered jawsor rounded or damaged box points shouldbe discarded and replaced.

Socket and adjustable wrenches can berepaired by the replacement of damagedparts. Periodic inspection, cleaning, andlight lubrication will maintain thesewrenches and reveal any damage. An ad-justable wrench with a spread or damagedfixed jaw or a bent handle should be dis-carded and replaced. Bent socket wrenchhandles and extensions, and cracked orbattered sockets should be discarded andreplaced.
